    Any DT Old-Timers out there?

DT is dying a slow death. But I still remember the good ole days
Any old timers besides Lexman and Andrew (ITISI?) out there?

I wonder if Dreamer will start posting here, as he still posts at DT.

As for me, I haven't bought or sold any thing for 9 months now. Am I sick? Or maybe cured I have been trying very hard in the past three weeks to justify getting something as I am in a half dozen email conversations with "old friends" as they upgrade their systems...and they pull me back in...........

My days as "Kelty" at DT forum were valuable, but I don't visit anymore.

      Was good ole days though.

Yea, I've also slowed down with acquisitons, but spending more time on understanding acoustics and room interactions.

I believe that DT was my first HT forum....my username was either DavidY or DaveY. I haven't really been back there since their decline....too bad, it was a really good forum.

I've just started coming back to HT Guide...a post here and there.

I owe a lot to old DT. Were it not for my start there, who knows what would be of HTG or my cable business today? :?

Maybe a few more old time DTers will sign on when they find out Ricky is co-moderating audio with me now. That is if he's happy with that. If not, well, just say the word, and your back to expert. Ricky and I did talk about this a few weeks ago so I think he's ok with that.

So, there you have it, both the audio moderators from the last several years at DT now right here, in Audio at HTG!

I think we have a few more DTers. Bob (formerly Gaffer), David Meek, formerly who, not sure? lol. I know Mr Will is a member here, but doesn't come around now.

          Welcome Ricky!

Movin up in the world hey Ricky... 8)

As ol "eldorado" I havent been back to DT in years. That was my first HT forum I joined. There was always a lot of good info there. To bad they were so anal (at least when I quit going there). That turtle thing was the last straw for me. I moved on to others and
now almost exclusively view HTGuide for my HT interests.

I popped my cherry on DTF, way back when.

I remember thinking....."Wow, there's people even goofier than me" ......that love this shit!

Sad to see it go downhill, when so many other forums are getting stronger. Wierd.

LOL Pete. Even though the Moderators applied efforts to the place, like a flower requires watering and care to bloom, it takes the support of owners along with moderators to make a forum bloom or to keep it in bloom. Without that care, even a forum in full bloom can wilt and whither away just like the flower. Nor do you choke the flower, or even shoot the flower in the foot (roots) at anypoint in the developmental process if you want it to bloom or stay in bloom. Quite a good analogy I think.

Hmmm. Went over to see if I still had an account listed, but nope. It's telling me it's my first visit and I have to register. Ah well, if any of you stop by, look in the Member List and see if David Meek still shows up.

Hi Lex.. I remember when you first stated your own site but lost track of it (sorry). Is this the same one? I was recuited here today thanks to Ricky. I used to hang at DT. I guess it's true that all good things come to an end...

I see a lot of familiar faces here.. I think I'll stick around a while if that's okay with you

How about Hoosier Audio Nut (I think that was the name).. Is he around? Wasn't he the bass junkie?

I'm also an old DT refugee! I didn't post often (around a 100) but always enjoyed "listening in" and learning. When it was drying up I was searching other sites for a place to land until I happened to see Ricky's email the other day. I'm glad to see some of the familiar names here, I saw over there. I've just found a new home!
                                    Thanks Ricky!

                                        Rich B checking in.

Lex, nice to see your Forum is doing nicely, despite your recent choice for new Moderation.

                                        Just kidding of course Rick.

I've become quite the lurker over the past year or so. My HT has been down for about 2 years now - all about to change in near future. Hmm, haven't said that before.

Lex, I saw you over at AVS a few times hanging out in the FPTV forums. I think you were leaning favorably towards the newer Sharp DLP models. Did you bite on a FP?

Good to see familiar names again.

Must have been an imposter, I am Lex over there, but haven't posted in a while, no FP for me at this point. I got a little disatisfied of the loss of the professional aspect of AVS, and don't spend much time there now.

                                              Hello all!

BOO Lex. Long time no see buddy.

I stop in at DTF every so ofter and nothing but tears comes to my eyes at it's state. I tried my damnest to get Todd to fix the code more than any of you know. The frustration I was having to deal with Todd on trying to get these things fixed turned into anger and I told Todd goodbye and we went our own ways.

Todd and I do chat on AIM every once and a while and last we talked about he stated he just didn't care about DTF anymore. It really all stared when Todd got a great new job that required him to work for 10 to 12 hours a day when he first stared. He had no internet connect from this new job thus he was not able to work on DTF and he was just to tired at night after a long day at work. Then the 2nd big wrench that was thrown into the workings of DTF was when Todd and Suzy decided to start a family thus even less time for him to work on the forum.

Welp, that the DTF story. hehe

I can't believe you remembered your password, lol.

Frustrating situation for you Randy. Trying to help, but nobody giving a sh.t if you did or not except the members.

I guess you have to truly love the forums and the relationships forged to stay with them. Lucky for me, I do.

Sure, it's possible that something else could come into my life of importance someday, like a woman. (ok, slim chance, lol), but I can't see me ever abandoning that which I love.

Will try to participate more once the audio bug kicks in. Been living in a small apartment in Japan so I can't justify any speaker upgrade (I'm still eyeing the SF speakers though)

First found that site in 1999 while looking for some info on a RPTV.

At the time I was considering a NTSC Zenith unit.
Ended up with one of the first HDTV capable RPTV's (Toshiba TP61H95) After an ISF by the infamous Michael TLV, that set is still running strong...

Didn't post much, but read lots ...

Nice to see some familiar names ...

Somewhat sorry to see the demise of DT though, was a nice place in it's heyday ...

                                                                        Then (Circa 1998-1999)

Kenwood Prologic receiver, generic inwall speakers in family room for main and surround duties, hitachi 27 " tube tv, Hitachi VCR, infinity video 1 center channel, and a no name 10" 100W powered sub.

                                                                        Now: (2003)

Mains are powered by a Denon POA-2800 power amp

Separates... Dreaming of the Anthem AVM20, or Rotel 1066 paired with Parasound, or Anthem PVA, or Rotel amps.

I'm also planning to demo and consider the Audio Refinement Pre 2 DSP and matching power amp as they are carried by a local B&M dealer.

Even Later: may try an Infinite Baffle subwoofer as my new living room sits entirely over a 3 ft crawl space that would be perfect place to drop a multi driver IB setup, and perhaps power it with the old Denon Amp.

Funny co-incidence as just happened to stop by DT today to see if anything was happening over there and noticed the pointers to this site ...

Ricky, I always wanted the VT2 mains. You probably had an effect on me getting the HK PA5800 amp (great deal at $349 new and I sold it for about the same when I got the Sherbourn). And you have been trying to get me to unload the E9000es since I first made the buy. I've always been happy with the E9000es for home theater, it was the music thing I could never get right until I purchased the P9000es. I am pretty sure I would miss the Sony's DSP's, which are pretty dog gone good. Heck using Virtual Theater B on the Sony makes my setup sound like 7.1 setup.

So the question is, how much better would the soundstage be with music (in comparison to the P9000es) considering my sources (Technics db22 table, Creek OBH-8 phono stage plus the new Onkyo DV-SP800 with burr-brown dacs)?

BTW, I just put my Cambridge Audio CD300se CD player up on another board but it is NOT to raise money for the soundstage. :P
I haven't played the 300se since getting the Onkyo.

Ive had alot of sony stuff in the past, the tap9000,sony 777es reciever,da4es and also the ta-e9000es (for a couple of days). Im running a 5.1 setup right now with nht 2.9, ac-2, vs2.4s, a couple of nht sw2 subs for the rear and an svs. I have a project TT and rp-82 plus an art dac and my processor is a aragon soundstage. Imo the improvement on music as compared to the sony's is a fairly large step up in two channel listening, The aragons smoother, totally transparent and is more musical. One thing is though it doesnt have the dsp modes of the sony (doesnt interest me too much) all it has is party and hall modes. The sonics on the aragon imo outweigh the dsps of the sony. Movies on the aragon are incredibly dynamic as well(this is the reason I bought it in the first place) as it replaced a couple of lexicons which are great for 7.1 setups but for straight 5.1 the aragon does better.

Would you say that 2 channel from the Sony 9000 prepro is inferior to both the cambridge cd and new dvd/cd player running through the TAP?

As for a 5.1 dsp sounding like 7.1, I don't think that's possible. I have 7 speakers laid out perfectly for 7 channel. My listening position is 10 feet from the front wall, 6 feet from the back wall, and 6 feet from each of the side walls. All 7 speakers are near these walls. The Aragon Soundstage with the nice Smart Devices Jr. that uses circle surround to extract discrete 6.1 rear center(s) still cannot match the expansive soundfield of true 7.1 (Logic 7).

                                                                                        Comment

That looks like a great setup John. Nice to see some NHT fans for a change. The E9000es to me has evolved to be a pretty good preamp (for the money) and has gotten better with each software upgrade (JMO). I currently use version 2.01. Did the one you try have 1.18c or better? I have to give the Sony props for implementing the 232 port when it did (pretty rare in 1998) and actually upgrading the software as well.

As for the Sony's DSP's, Virtual Theater B is the one I use probably 90% (for all DD and DTS DVD's) of the time. It is worlds better than the regular DD and DTS modes. It is like a different animal all together. The Sony has a ton of DSP's but I really only use about 4 of those (Virtual theater, live house, Cinema Studio B and Virtual Theater 6.1). Maybe the soundstage would sound better using its vanilla modes vs the Virtual Theater mode of the Sony (that is what it would have to best) and if it can, then it is pretty special.

What you said about the 2 channel does perk my interest however. It would be nice to use the one box vs the 2 boxes. I think the dealer I bought my Sherbourn amp from also deals Aragon (and he has very competitive prices) so I will keep that in mind.

Of course to finance such a move ($1400) I would need about $150 for my Cambridge Audio CD player, $700 for my E9000es and $500 for the P9000es. I think I could justify a little more (WAF) by replacing THREE boxes with ONE.
