I think I am going with the whole house subwoofer next. Have you seen it? Nobody really has, because after 1 demo, the walls tumble, so there's nothing left to show, lol.

The problem with a really BIG "speaker" like that is if it needs tweaking, you can't just "skootch it over". :>)
When I was a kid, one my classmates had a bunch of us over for parties at her house from time to time. Her dad, a successful trial attorney, liked to show off his music system, with huge dual sound chambers (with concrete block walls and sound-board liners) that had been excavated into the side of a hill after the house was built. Total cost for the project was reportedly over $100,000 (and this was back when that was considered to be a lot of money.) :>) Unfortunately, it sounded awful, because the contractor got the dimensions wrong, and he spent a lot of time redoing it.

Yeah, what do you do if you have a null or standing wave problem? 8OOriginally posted by Burke StricklandThe problem with a really BIG "speaker" like that is if it needs tweaking, you can't just "skootch it over". :>)Now that's wild. Imagine the backyard BBQ parties he could have had though! 8OWhen I was a kid, one my classmates had a bunch of us over for parties at her house from time to time. Lex, wouldn't that then be the "hole" house sub?
: Hey, it's only a tough crowd if we like you. . . feel the love?
Just an opinion here, but that room looks tacky. It MAY sound wonderful, but it doesn't follow through on the finsh. YMMV.

Yeah, definitely looks tacky, but worse thing is the cold feeling it seems to radiate. Sitting on that sofa listening to music would be like sitting alone in a stadium listening to a band on stage. I prefer pleasant surroundings.
Doesn't matter, though. Wifey says we can't afford this world's biggest subwoofer. Oh, well...

by RobPThe other night my family and I were watching the Incredibles and there was one part where a rocket takes off, the bass was quick, low, and loud. My subwoofer which is a B&W ASW850, bottomed out and sounded distorted. I ended up turning the sub level down to a negative 7 on my Rotel processor to...-

I've typically either bought used gear, waited for something to pop up on the interweb, or used various employee discounts to buy the next piece of the audio nirvana pie. Thus it was outside my typical comfort zone when I purchased a brand new pair of Magnepan 1.7s two months ago. For that story, see this thread:

by P-DubA couple of weeks ago I had the chance to attend a local HT shop's demo night. I've been on thier mailing list for a while, but something had always come up and so I couldn't make it the last couple of years.
There were several rooms setup with demos running every half hour. The first... -
by captzergWhat do you all think of the ASW CM with my Sig 805's? This is JUST for two-channel music I have a very small room this is going in. I don't want to spend alot of money. I told my dealer the next time he had a floor model on a musical subwoofer (that was inexpensive) let me know. I'd rather put my...-
