Home theater primer for new people

Given that at this time of year there are likely a number of people looking to get into the hobby I figured it was likely a good time to start a thread explaining some of the basics about our beloved hobby.

These are two of the best links I've found on explaining what progressive scan is and its benefits.

If anyone else has some good links or info we should add them to this thread.

Mats is there a way to keep this on top?

Good idea Andrew. Wouldn't it be more appropriate in the Home Theater section of the forum. We need some action over there.

I found several good articles here: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/

It's a broad range of FAQ's and ARCHIVES that will keep you reading for a while.

I assume you mean the "Home Theater" forum within HT Guide and not... some other place where the rest of us might not find it. :>)

I sometimes wonder if we aren't all spending way to much effort choosing our gear based on how it sounds in our rooms vs fixing our rooms to give us more accurate sound from the gear we already have. For example suppose we go out and buy a speaker that has a very nice flat frequency response only to...

I'm close to being ready to prime my new subwoofer enclosure

the majority of the filling has been done (tedious process that is...) almost all of the work with the roundover bit is finished and I'd like a suggestion for a suitable primer to use prior to painting.

Has anyone read this review? Any comments? I'd be interested in reading/seeing more than the summaries listed here on a few of the drivers, specifically the two 10" coaxes by Sica and P. Audio and the HiVi (Expolinear) Trinity 6 spiral planar/ring-radiator/cone triax. But alas I've never seen Hobby...
