Are progressive scan dvd players on the way out ?

Pretty much all the new hdtvs and digital front projectors coming out do internal progressive scanning, some sporting such well known names as Faroudja. What does that mean for the spate of progressive scan dvd players hitting the market ? I suppose it depends on which component has the best progressive scanner, the tv/projector, or the dvd player. But from what I've been reading lately, the internal progressive scanners on the new tv/pjs are pretty darn good.

From what I've read the internal doublers are good but not as good as progressive scan so I doubt we'll see them leave anytime soon

I think that if you are going with a RPTV then progressive scan DVD players are still very much required. If you make the move to FPTV, either digital or analog, you probably want to use an external scaler or HTPC, which would make a progressive scan player unnecessary. However, there are not that many non-progressive DVD players to choose from, atleast for new models, so you don't have really have a choice.

RSP 1098 and progressive scan dvd/dvd audio players
        by Henk
The RSP 1098 TFT screen displays no video unless a usable signal is passed through the composite video connection. However, as pointed out in the RSP 1098 manual not all dvd players, set in progressive mode, output a usable composite video signal. This is true also for dvd players that play dvd audio....

        Progressive Scan DVD Player
        by junior77blue
So, if my hitachi TV upcoverts all my signals into 1080i, what's the purpose of having a progressive scan DVD player?

Wouldn't it make more sense to 'feed' the TV with a raw signal as opposed to feeding it the progressive scan signal, and then having the TV upsample that once again....

        What makes progressive scan better??
        by barona
I had a few questions on this matter since there are so many progressive scan DVD players now available.

What should I be looking for on paper to try and narrow the search before I travel to stores for demonstrations??

        Faroudja or Burr-Brown chips??

        Good Progressive Scan?
        by froggi3
        Hey there,

It's my first post and I have a couple of questions . I just purchased a BENQ PB6110, it has no HDMI/DVI inputs, but I've got a good breakout cable that's currently connected to my Phillips DVP642. I was told that I could get a better picture with a DVD player...

Will a progressive scan DVD player be of benefit?
        by P-Dub
From what I know, if I don't have a TV capable of receiving a progressive scan signal, a progressive scan DVD player is a waste of money.

However, with the prices coming down, should it be a consideration? I'm thinking about the cost of the Tosh 3750, which I've seen for C$350 and the...
