From what I've read Paul they aren't that stellar for regular CD playback but their SACD is very decent...ie there's less difference in its SACD performace vs high end SACD players then there is in its CD performance. There are a few people doing mod's to these players to boost their performance though so that might be an option down the line.

I recently bought a Sony 222ES SACD player. I think it sounds fantastic. The SACD sound goes without saying but what really surprises me is the redbook performance. I have read that some of the Sony SACD players automatically convert the redbook 16/44 to DSD. Is this true?
