    Best combo player??

    Hello All,

If I go HD or Blu-ray it must be a combo player. I will not touch Lg's unit for person reasons. Any good combo player coming out for the hoildays?

    the samsung BD-UP5000

It was due to be out before the end of October but it has been delayed (the samsung BD player has been totally cancled). I expect it will be out before 2008, and it will be a killer.

Only player to decode DTS MA and send TrueHD etc as bitstream.

If a combo player is in your sights wait for this one. It will be great.

Actually, isn't that the ONLY combo player out there that isn't an LG?

        besides the 2nd gen LG...yes.

but its good anyway, and will probably be equal to or better then most stand alone players.

I'm really hoping this one (Samsung BD-UP5000) is as good as it appears to be. I've love to add this to my system...and move my Sony BDP-S1 to my other room. Would be nice to be able to play any HD movie, regardless of format (without needing two players).

The two player concept would get pretty lame after awhile. I really have mixed reviews on the LG though. What reasons do you have?

I wonder, after the delay announcement, if the price will still be at the 1K mark. I understand LG is also coming out with a newer version. As much as I'd like to have a dual player and start enjoying HD, I won't be putting out 1K or more. Hopefully, somewhere down the road they'll be more sensibly priced.

I thought it was going to be like 800. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

If you go to samsungs website the MSRP is $1000 and any place that has it as a pre-ordered item, is selling it right at the price.

Best thing to do is buy the PS3 for ~600, get very good BR playback and then go out and get a ~$200-$300 HD player.

Still less and you get a video game system within the price.

A video game system and a very loud BR player.

                        Denon

I've talked ot a dealer about a combo player like this. He said he has been told that Denon is coming out with a higher end BR/HD DVD player soon.
It might be upwards of $2k.

Thought Denon was strictly blu ray? I think I'm going to pick up the cheaper sony BD player and use my computer for HD-DVD for now and then when the sammy comes out pick it up. It's a really nice player.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the new Samsung combo player, and the new LG (200 model, not the existing 100 model) looks pretty good too.

At CEDIA, Denon only showed Blu-Ray players, and their CEO gave a press release that for now, they're only doing Blu-Ray because of construction and part availability. He left the door open for HD-DVD in the future, but nothing's planned yet.

Well of course he's going to leave the door open. Why would he make a statement saying he was going to do only one of the formats forever? What if one dies? Then obviously he'd have to move to the one that survives.

The only problem I have with the new LG player is that it does not include multi-channel analog output. Since this is how I get my audio, the Samsung (so far) is the only viable option.

                                  Hello All,

I hope both formats die like DVD-Audio & SA-DVD. We need $$ for new players & $$ to get the new sound. When will the end? My econmical away of saving the $$ was investing in an Oppo 1080p DVD unit & ordering some films from overseas. The sound is so superior to our NTSC format. Also they have more DTS titles. So for now I'll chill & wait.

Well I think both formats will survive as I think these combo players will take off and there for it'll be up to the studio to pick what they want. I don't think either will die out until we get a solid state format of movies.
