    Anything left for HT ?

Well, now that Christmas has come and gone, did you spend wisely, or overspend. I usually get carried away, but I was more cautious this Christmas and stayed within budget. I don't have any large HT purchases planned for 2002, but I will continue to add to my DVD collection, though the quantity will be much less that last year. I expect to be much more choosey, asking myself whether or not I really want to add this title to my collection.
How about you ? Anything left to sepnd on your HT ?

I think my next major upgrade is going to be the most expensive yet...and by a huge margin...yup a new house with a room suitable for a HT SACD has me interested but there's a few things I need to add before that will be a possibility. Also if the outlaw pre amp proves to be as good as it might be I might sell my Sony pre amp and move over to that...

This year is going to be pretty tame in the Meek HT/music world. Unquestionably, more DVD's and CD's will find their way home along with a progressive-scan DVD player (Panasonic RP-91 hopefully) and new turntable (Rega Planar 3), too. That's about it. I'd like to add a couple of tube monoblocks and a tube pre-amp, but most likely that'll be next year (2003).

Didn't spend any money this Xmas on HT, unless you count the DVDROM drive upgrades I did, though I did get a couple of FarScape DVD's, and Dr. Zhivago! :B

I put my older CD player in for warranty work (transport problems) and when I get that back, plan to start a DAC project. But that will wind up in the bedroom, so it doesn't count as HT.

Santa didn't bring me a projector this year, but our company has suspended the incentivized portion of our pay, so that's a 20-25% pay cut- just more coal in the stocking- not a new projector!

But that means discretionary income has about dried up, except for what I can earn on special projects. Lucky I won an upgrade to my CLIO test software, because I couldn't have afforded buying it.

On the task list is building a sub for the main system; I already have the HE-15 driver, so that's not a big bucks issue. Also, I will be building two BP1203 subs this year, one sealed, one ported, for bedroom and girlfriend's home.

So, this will probably be a leaner, meaner year for HT than I was planning six months ago!

Well, I'll just have to get out and see some more movies- like "Lord of the Rings", and "Attack of the Clones".

        Regards,

        Jon

Nothing left. Spent way to much, and am over budget for everything. no upgrades in sight. But 3rd and 4th Qtr saw my test systems built, including the Classe' CP-35 and Rega Jupiter. Toshiba 20" component video TV, test system center, and budget receiver and dvd player. So, really, I am about upgraded out-

2002? The year of the CAT. Focusing on selling cables, and building my company. Also fairly focused on tax time, blah!

I'd put myself in the spent wisely category. Hardly bought any dvd's this Christmas, nor did I receive any dvd's. That's okay as I pickedup just over 100 titles last year, pretty much 2 a week. This year I hope to be more conservative and only average 1 a week.

Equipmenet wise everything is pretty much set. I did get a chance to try out some B&W 302's and CC3, but did not like them as much as my Energy's. So the B&W's are in the bedroom. I'd love to get a new receiver, but I'm holding out for the big upgrade. A projector setup would be my next goal. That will take a few years of savings.

I did buy a new Lazyboy couch last year. Now the dilema is, do I sit on the sides and recline, or sit in the centre right in the sweet spot?

I thought I would purchase one or two new toys this year for my HT, however, I've recieved some recent news that will put a halt on any other puchases this year.

I will still get to enjoy what the rest of you pick up though! :B

No, nothing grave, it will just require no playing for John this year. Thanks for your concern.

I am so happy with the Audio side of my system that I really have no plans of upgrading that part.

A FPTV will be next on the Video side of things on the near future.

Well, to start off 2002, i'm putting together a small bedroom rig.

B&W 303's(4 of them), matching center..all in the maple finish.
                      Integra 6.2

                      Panny SuperFlat 27"tv

If Pioneer comes out with that SACD/DVD Audio player then the 9K goes to the bedroom!

I've sold my Proceed AVP and am now using a borrowed Lexicon DC-1 DD/THX (so no DTS for now), so my main goal is to buy a new preamp . The plan is to purchase a Lexicon MC-12B (I'm bartering some Crestron software I wrote for a nice fat discount on one...). The cash is in the bank, but the supply of MC-12B's seems to be pretty lean at the moment.

Depending on how the MC-12B works out for 2 channel duty, I may try to get a Mark Levinson No. 380S for 2 channel duty (either used, or I may be able to negotiate another deal).

Finally, if I can figure out where to put them in my small room (complete with low ceilings - finished room in the basement...), side surround speakers are on my wish list. The catch (other than room issues) is that I either need something that will complement my B&W Matrix 800 series speakers or I need to make a full speaker system change.

Last Christmas I did buy almost 20 DVDs (A few stores went out of business). My next upgrade would be speakers. I have been looking at the Monitor audio Silver 4s and 9s and the Martin logins Odessey/Scripts. I need some input from anyone regarding speakers to match my Onkyo 777 - a 5.1 THX system. Also please recomend Sub/s too. Speakers to be somewhere in the $5,000.00 range.

However, I would like to pickup the Pioneer SD533HD RPTV within the next two months. Any thoughts? I saw this unit at a HT store and for the sharp video, styling and price it carries, I think I can get away without going for that smooth finish of the ELITE RPTVs. These babies (SD533HD) seem to have the same setup as the Elites'

I have learnt alot from this forum.

Clive, I would start a new thread, just for your questions.

My idea is usually Sonus faber. 2 Concertos, a pair of concertinos, and one of their centers. Should leave about a grand for the sub.

                            I have truly enjoyed mine.
