Bruce, rather than send us back to the other thread why not turn this into information about your question?
I have a 35" mitsubishi that has been a rock for over 10 years, and the picture still looks very good.
If I were ready for a new DVD player, (in about a year) I'd be talking about HTPC, for the money you can't beat the performance, you can get the best video presentation available, and it's easily upgradable, also cheaper than rebuying for DVD audio when it is finally ironed out.
