That is one cool looking house!

Nice HT set up as well. I don't understand the use of the anamorphic lens however. Are you pulling images of in a stretched mode, and then optically compressing?

That's exactly what I'm doing. The lens allows me to use the entire 1024x768 panel. Compressing to a 16:9 display yields a smooth, screendoorless, and artifact free image. It also gives me 33% more brightness.

John,

Nice setup, but of course it calls to mind several questions, since I'm relatively new to the LT-150 bandwagon I'll ask away....

1) Ceiling mount drastically increases the fan noise, what are you doing to abate the noise?

It looks like I'm a bit closer to my PJ than you are, but in my system, ANY extraneous noise is noticable these days as the resolution increases.

2) I'm not sure if it's the angle or what, but the screen doesn't look to be level when fully extended. Hopefully it's just the photograph.

3) Have you made a pass at the projector with either VE or AVIA? The LIS shot seems just a bit "too blue".

4) Am I missing your lighting controls? While the LT-150 does a nice job, it really shines (pardon the pun) in a light controlled environment. ANY extraneous light causes color washout. So much so that I've taken to covering the fronts of my components with black drapes.

Thanks John, nice photos and setup yourself. I'm really curious on how much a difference a Grayhawk makes as opposed to my Matte White screen.

As to your questions.

1) Fortunately the shelf abates the noise somewhat because it is far larger than the projector itself, partially blocking the fan noise. I would like to entertain the idea of enclosing it further as soon as I get time. Noise is an issue on very quiet passages and I have looked at the Whisperflow. The problem I have is because of the curved ceiling a ready made hushbox is going to be very difficult to retrofit. Also the back end of the PJ is only about 1" from the ceiling.

2) It's the photo. I leveled the screen when I hung it and checked it again after I took the photo.

3) I used AVIA about 7 times during my tweaking phase. The blue tint is from the inexpensive digital camera I used.

4) I have absolutely no lighting control. The house has large expanses of windows and no window treatments. I can only watch at night, which is fine with me because of my schedule and I hate to cover up the view.

One other note, I'm sitting 10.5' away from my 92" wide screen.

Oh no! Lex knows where I live!

By next spring we will have to have a HT/Keg/Barbeque!

Excellent new set of pictures.I can't get over the room. I would live there if I had that view. As for movie viewing in the daytime, who would want to.I basically do all my viewing at night,too, even though I have a dedicated room with total light control.
Regarding the Whisperflow. I have one for my Sony VPL400 lcd projector.The 400 is a very fan-noisy projector and the Whisperflow cut the sound substantially. I can still hear the fan, but it is not near as noisy as before the enclosure. I understand Dave Beatty has made some changes to the Whisperflow design, making it even quieter.I don't know how noisy the LT150 is compared to the 400, but I'd bet my projector is louder, so a Whisperflow could be an excellent addon for you HT.

The whisperflow I have on order incorporates the latest noise abatement techniques, including internal noise dampening.

I wish I had an Audio Control SPL meter, as the fan output in ceiling mount mode is beyond the limits of measurement with the el cheapo Rat Shack meter.

I'm guesstimating it at 40-45dB but I have no clue how accurate this is. It could be as high as 50+. Oh wait, duh. I'll stick the meter right up to it and extrapolate. Sadly its right over my head in the listening room, due to the geometry of the room.

Ok, 62dB @ 2 feet. I sit about 6' away from the projector, that means approximately a 9dB attenuation, not counting the loss from the mdf board the PJ sits at this point in time. Call it 53 dB.

Not good. Very loud :-(

John that is loud, I think mine is a little quieter with the shelf arrangement. Did you measure in proximity to the pj or up to the side where the fans are located?

This was to the side of the fan, approximately 2 ft away, which is the most convenient spot for me to measure.

But based on your room picture, you're a good bit further away than I am. This is key, as it'll fall off in an inverse square function.

Here's the key. Mute the output of your system, and see if you notice the sound of the fan. If you do, it's too loud!
