How much is your HT contents worth ?

I haven't sat down and added up the approximate value of my HT for some time. With two projectors, a Denon receiver, a LD/DVD combi player, a DVD player, two VCRs and well over 2000 movies in DVD, Laserdisc and VHS, a 7.2 Boston Acoustics speaker setup, a 54 x 92 Da-Lite fixed screen, assorted accessories: I'm guessing my contents to be somewhere around $25-$26,000. Canadian (NEW).
This is not counting TVs, DVD Players, VCRs and Stereo equipment in other rooms.
    What about you guys ?

$60,000, plus about another $10,000 in movies and CDs, plus about another $12,000 in furniture, plus $25,000 for the room itself.
It is a good idea to keep a photo record of all your HT contents and your receipts in a safety deposit box for insurance claims.

I did that once but stopped counting when I realized it was getting to be double what my car cost

At retail? It's depressing to think about.

I don't have a tricked out display subsystem (a 27" Toshiba TV for the time being), so nearly every dollar invested is in the Audio side.

Not counting cabling (hold on while I do the math in my head)..... somwhere in the vicinity of $20K.

But it's too depressing to think about that.

        Regards,

I don’t know the cost of my setup but most of the stuff I got was demos. What scars me more is the cost of the stuff that I want to add to my system.

Man, I just realized that I have almost $10k in software! What a reality check. My hardware exceeds my software cost.

Man, that make me a pup.

I've got about $8,000 in hardware, and that includes the bedroom. My dvd collection is now over $6,000. Of course that's replacement cost.

George: I bow to the master with over 2,000 movies. Do you have a break out of how many are on DVD, LD and VHS?

you know its the software that really scares you...hardware you rememebr spending "X" on it but software just sorts of gradually builds and adds up to a huge sum...even for those of us with very modest collections

You know Robbie, Lex is on to something. When I first started down this road, I never pland two exceed 5-6k total. And like Andrew stated, the software will sneak up on you quickly. I never intended to start collecting dvd's. I collected laserdisc, albums, cassette tapes, cd's, sega games (Genesis and now Dreamcast), as well as Playstation. So the last thing that I needed was to start another media.

I enjoy this stuff to no end but, I am not well to do by any means so, I'll need to employ a little more control.

Oh wait, my children have a roof over their heads and, the bills aren't behind.... uhhh scratch all the above!:B

Hmmm.....near as I can tell the wife and I are sitting on about $12K. Have of that is the full Sonus Faber ensemble. Of course I'm not counting my software, cable, or the old 32" Pro Scan TV. So I still have huge room to upgrade.

                                  Ideas?

It's hard to do right now because over time I have replaced some Full Screen LDs, and am still replacing VHS tapes with DVDs as they are released. When my VHS collection is down to a row or two on the rack, I plan to start working on a database. I can say that the DVD collection is very close to 900 at the moment. It changes weekly.

                                        Software - conservative estimate - $2500 CAD

Hardware, cabling, etc. - $5500 CAD (includes a 27" TV, so I've got some spending to do!!!)

I went into my dealer 18 months ago to buy a $399 5 speaker mini-stereo, which I thought would be just great! Needless to say I walked out with something a little more pricey!

And I want that Kenwood DVD Mega Changer $1500.

                                        ReplayTV when it gets here.

3 mono-blocks or a 3 ch. amp to soup up the old Denon 3300.

Then heaven forbid I move to a house!!!

$25,000 hardware in the last 18 months.
$10,000 hardware before that and approx $5,000 in software.
Quick upgrading cost me lots of money right off the hop.

                                            Let's see:

I didn't pay list price for everything, but that's what I'm listing (at least as close as I can remember):

                                            Proceed AVP $5000
                                            Krell FPB-200 $6500

                                            B&W Matrix 802 Series 3 $4000
                                            B&W Matrix 804 $2200
                                            Velodyne HGS-18 $3000
                                            Pioneer Elite CLD-79 LaserDisc $1300
                                            Mitsubishi 31" TV $1100
Extron System 8 Switcher $3000 (got it for $350 on eBay)
Extron YCS SW6 MX $995 (converts composite to S-Video so I can use the S-Video input on my TV for everything)
                                            Sony SLVR1000 S-VHS VCR $1000
                                            JVC HRS-9600U S-VHS VCR $500??
                                            Mitsubishi VHS VCR $300 (backup)
Sony 330 DVD player $300 (Waiting for things to settle down more before sinking $$$ into DVD player)
                                            Onkyo Integra CD changer $500
                                            Onkyo Integra Tape Deck $500
Onkyo 717 Receiver (used for tuner now) $800
                                            Pioneer turntable $130
                                            Cabinets $1500
                                            Cables $2000 (approximate)
Crestron and other HA Equipment $7000

                                            That's around $46K. I haven't added it up in a while - yikes.

I probably have around 30 LD's and around 30 DVD's. I rent most movies (Netflix) and only buy the ones I really feel I'll watch over and over.

What scares me is that I fully intend to upgrade the video side of my system once HDTV and the DVD formats settle down. The Sony DVD player does the job just fine for now. I figured that until SACD and DVD Audio are better established (or if 1 kills the other), that will be the proper time for me to spend on a better DVD player (such as the Proceed PMDT). But I also see a projector and screen in my future...

James, as long as your cycle has surround sound, your good, lol.

Gregorious, all I set out to do was upgrade my VCR, lol. Oh the irony that it's the one component I don't use now, except the RAREST of occasions.

                                              Trev, yu da man!

Geoff, wow, nice setup so far man, your a lot like me. Audio extremist, and video is fairly normal. Someday I look forward to a video upgrade as well, but not yet, I doubt it will be before my daughter graduates college. Unless I do extremely well at the office or CAT. Right now, neigher looks particularly wonderful, but I am forging ahead with the CAT!

Around 30K each for both 2-ch and HT systems. One thing I seem to notice is that my systems tend to be bang-for-the buck setups, and this was totally unintentional.
