    Magnetic Shielding

When a friend and I were shopping around for speakers for him a comment that one of the salesman made I did not completely trust so I offer here for your consideration. The statement was that magnetic shielding weakens the speakers abilities.

I am not sure that I believe this so does anyone have any ideas as to weather this is true?

unless its poorly implemented I doubt it has any effect at all on the speaker drivers.

If the shielding is done after the fact; like adding bucking magnets, then this can make some minimal changes to the T/S parameters. But with factory build shielded speakers this isn't an issue. It's possible the salesman was confused or just BS'ing

          DIY Magnetic Shielding?
          by cameronthorne
I will soon have a non-shielded speaker that I will be placing close to my direct-view television, and I would like to shield the speaker. The tweeter is naturally shielded, but the midrange is just a standard Peerless HDS 850488. My current plan is to wrap the magnet in two layers of MagnetShiel...

I have the unshielded Arvo's in the family room. The TV in there is a standard 32" Toshiba direct view that lives in the fireplace.

I was playing around putting bucking magnets on the various drivers and...

Shielding A Seas CA18RLY Woofer, Measurements
          by Winter
Just in case anyone is interested, listed below is some test information on shielding a Seas CA18RLY. I used Woofer Tester 2 to measure the Fs and Qts parameters. A 27" CRT television with a blue screen (no input signal) was used to judge magnetic interference. When a bucking magnet is placed...

          SS 26W test data
          by sdl2112
I have seen comments recently on the T/S parameters being off on SS drivers, some in the Ardent thread and elsewhere. I found this also a year ago when I first tested my 26W/8867T00 and found the T/S parameters quite different from the manufacturer. I emailed SS questioning this but they never responded....

          Neodymium Magnet

A neodymium magnet is a type of permanent magnet made from an alloy of neodymium, iron, and boron to form the Nd2Fe14B tetragonal crystalline structure. It is one of the strongest and most powerful magnets available, offering high magnetic strength in a compact and lightweight form. In loudspeaker design, neodymium magnets are commonly used to create powerful and efficient magnetic fields within the speaker's motor structure. The motor structure is a critical component...
