    Help!!!...please!!!

This is probably a silly question, but I just bought a new sub and it sounds AMAZING FOR MOVIES, but there is no sound coming out of it when I'm listening to music in stereo....Why is this? Am I missing a setting or something? I went through my on screen menu on my receiver, but didn't really see anything(I have a marantz receiver) What am I missing?

Should my "Bass Mix" be set to "Mix" or "Both"...Both produces a little bass, but not what i was expecting(especially considering what I hear from DVDs)

It depends on the music as well.

Depending on your speakers, but make sure your speaker settings are on small and then set the bass to sub. This should direct all frequencies below 80Hz or depending on your crossover setting in your receiver to your sub.

Yes, the "large/small" setting on the speakers in your receiver makes all the difference. Right now, your sub is reproducing the LFE channel of Dolby Digital and such. But you need to set it up to create the low bass frequencies of all your material.

I have a Marantz SR8400. My sub is the SVS 20-39PC Plus. I turned all the speakers to "Small". There is a "LPF/HPF" setting that has "80HZ", "100HZ", "120HZ". Also my SVS is set the factory settings with the gain set to about 3/8. If I turn it any higher, I would be afraid what would happen if I watched that glass explosion on the Matrix(she shakes the whole house as it is :T )...yes....'she'...he name is Betsy causes she blows me away...lol

I would leave the LPF set to 80Hz unless you have VERY small main speakers. Setting your other channels to "small" should have done the trick.

As far as the gain on the sub, you should simply calibrate each channel with an SPL meter. This will get everything balanced appropriately (more or less).

              Hi,

Before I got my Rotel I had a Marantz SR7200.

I could be wrong with this, but I presume you are listening to music using the 'Source Direct' mode on the 8400. If so, when playing a CD, you will get two channel stereo - to your from L/R only. It will output the sound with minimum processing - it will not use bass management and process/split LF to the sub. The opposite exists for multichannel. It will deliever sound to all channels.

If you turn off Source Direct and select Stereo or whatever other format, it will process and output the LF to your sub, based on your output settings. Although, I found that additional processing detracts from the overall quality and clarity of the sound. This was all in all, my experience with the SR7200.
Perhaps they've changed things with the 8400.
              Vincent.

I don't want the world. I just want your half.

Absoulutely! I just set one up yesturday and found the same results. Make sure you first plug in a vid cable from the monitor out to an inpiut on the tv because you'll need to do some of this on screen <OSD> press amp/audio then activate your OSD then change the speaker sizes etc. However, the source direct mentioned above can be done on the receiver/remote without the <OSD>. Play with the sound processing fields for a comfortable mode.

Bass management is disabled when source direct is active.

                Good Luck!

Music sounds the best in Stereo, but I have to just turn up the gain on the subs to get it to produce the bass that sounds good. I turned it up a little higher than half way, but from the others that have had this sub, never seem to turn it up even close to that high. I have it about 3/8 for movies and the whole freakin' house shakes...you can feel it, but i can't "feel" it with the music.

Music is recorded, for the most part, in stereo, and do send it to more channels just takes away from what the artist intended...

Is there any receiver that is transparent for stereo?

In the past I have owned multiple AV receiver. Onkyo, Rotel, Marantz.
I sold my last AV received back in 2013. At that time, I was running a Marantz Pre-Amp (not an AV receiver) with Emotiva 5-channel amp.

When I got the email with Trond-Erik's new Pro-Pro, something about that rang a bell. The bell was related to an AV Forums post by a guy with high sensitivity speakers comparing the Benchmark AHB2 amplifier and the M22 and some other amplifiers. One of his bugaboos was output noise, and noise that could...

                      by GlennG
I have been shopping around for a new receiver now for the past month and have again narrowed my choices. l know that the Rotel RSX-1056 is probably a better receiver than the Marantz SR7400 but the 1056 has no phono jack nor does it have a headphone jack. I have listened to both receivers and found...

I have had this setup for over an year now and I thoroughly enjoy them. Recently I started noticing, especially during sitcoms/movies where conversation is more, I am turning up the volume quite a bit. Typically my setting is left at 45 (on the volume) and I increase it to 55 most of the time for conversations....

                      Low/Dollar Receiver (as processor) options
                      by tpremo55
I'm assembling iteration one of a home theater and am looking for a low dollar pre-pro. I've looked at the emotiva UMC-200, but the lack of analog video inputs makes it less interesting to me. Good pre-pros that meet my needs start around $1000 and I'd rather spend the money on a projector.
