    NewB here from the islands.

Hello all. I've been lurking for a bit now and I like all the knowledge that I see here.

I grew up in electronics stores and my dad has always had some of the nicer equipment for me to toy around with as he was a repairman for a bit, so he always had toys laying around for me to play with.

Now that I am at the stage of putting my own HT system together, I have spent countless hours reading up on all the equipment out there. My current system is a JBL SCS135 that made the transition with me from my mom's house to my new condo, but I am looking to replace it. For viewing purposes, I invested in the Optoma H31. I got the projector mounted and up and running on Monday and I love it. The only thing that I do not like is the sounds coming from my speakers. I NEED AN UPGRADE!

Looking for a little assistance with choosing what would work best for me.

I currently live in a 6 floor condo building. The building has poured concrete floors and walls. The room that I have my HT in is 13.5 by 20. Concrete painted walls and tiled floors. The whole condo is pretty live right now, but I look to control that very shortly with some rugs to breakup all the echo.

So far, I have come to the conclusion that I want to stay in the "budget" category with this being my first major HT. I have read a lot about what Ed Frias has done with the BIC DV62CLR speakers and I am about 85% sure that will be my front-stage. I am VERY interested in a DIY sub for some good rumble. I listen to music and watch movies equally, so the sub would have to be pretty versatile. 50%music, 50% movies. My rear surrounds are ADS ceiling mounted with directional tweets.

Looking for some suggestions on the DIY front for a sub mainly. Can you help a brotha out?

I want some deep and very present bass!

Welcome to The Guide, D-train. I'll leave speaker recommendations to others experts here in that field, but just wanted to say hello. Wife and I have been to Freeport a few times and love the Bahamas. Paradise, for sure.
    Good luck with your HT.

Hey mon, welcome to The Guide. :welcome:

Thomas already pointed you towards the DIY forum for the sub, but also stop by the Spaced Out forum. It's where we talk about setting up a room and all the various things that go with that.

Power response, acoustics and how a "flat on axis" design sounds in a room

            Hi all,

I've been playing around with one of my designs (the Monoliths): a 2.5 way with Peerless 830884 drivers and a SEAS 27TBFC on top. My parents have them, and they asked for a bit more top end sparkle (I assume due to their hearing loss).

            Anyway, after further refining...

            Timber floors for HT room
            by Linmuse
            I'm in the process of fitting out a 7.5m x 4.5m x 2.9m (24.75'x14.85'x9.75') room for HT.
The floor will be 19mm(3/4") solid timber boards on timber batons. The batons are fixed to a concrete slab and there's a 80mm(3") air gap between floor boards and slab.
            My question is:...

I've got a good jump on my dedicated HT construction, but now I'm starting to worry about things... I'm building the HT in my basement, and it will have finished dimensions of 15' W x 21' D x 8.5' H.

The "front" of the HT will be on the "wall" of my house that is...

            Speaker Spikes and Wood Floors
            by tizeye
Currently building Zaph's SR71 and matching stands. First primer coat on drying on sands as I type. Having difficulty deciding how to spike the stands.

With my sub, PE's 10" Titanic, I quickly learned pointy spikes + wood floors = disaster and the separate floor plates are a joke...
