Aesthetically Challenged Speaker Competition

I'll start with this little beauty - the Wilson Alexandria.

It would be like having a pair of vending machines in your listening room.

Hmmm, well I am not to sure about this topic Burner. Why?

1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
2. A speaker without sound is just a floor cover anyway. It's what does it sound like that matters most, obviously.
3. I hate to throw off on someone's dream speakers by accident simply because I don't like the looks of it.

Yeah, this thread can continue as long as it stays lighthearted fun.

If people really believe that "looks don't count" and it is just great sound that really matters, then we won't scare them off by pointing out that a particular set of speakers 1) sounds really good AND 2) helps define "ugly". :>)

With those criteria established, a speaker that comes to mind is the Green Mountain Audio Continuum 2, shown above. With or without its grilles, this $6,500 "beauty" doesn't look like its parts were meant to go together. The photo doesn't do them justice -- they look worse in person. :>) But sound heavenly.

PS -- The Wilsons are an easy target. That whole family of speakers is seriously looks-challenged. And lucky for them we aren't setting "reasonably priced for quality of sound delivered" as a third criterion. :>)

If people are permitted to express strong views about the sound quality of a loudspeaker in this forum, surely it is legitimate to extend that right to the expression of strong views about visual quality?

The general concensus on the Wilsons is that they are not the prettiest speakers to look (although the fit and finish is impecable) at but man can they deliver the goods musically!! So turn down the lights and enjoy the tunes. :T
