Actor Morgan Freeman has teamed up with Intel to launch a new company whose goal is to deliver first-run movies directly to customers over the Internet. Morgan Freeman is involved with the new venture through a company he and producer Lori McCreary founded in 1996 called Revelations Entertainment. The new company, founded by Revelations and funded by Intel, is called ClickStar, and was announced by Freeman and Intel's CEO Paul Otellini at the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference.
Clickstar's goal to provide consumers with the ability to pay for and download movies, but unlike other services these movies would be from a selection of first-run, pre-DVD release films. Consumers will also have the ability to access artist-created entertainment channels. Freeman stated that one of the goals of the new company would be to make films "easier to buy than to pirate."
The new company will be headed by former Sony Executive Nizar Allibhoy.
