DVD's in THX?

On the THX websitewebsite it says that Ice Age is THX encoded -- I believe thats what they're stating. But when I go to amazon.com amazon.com it says its Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround. When I get my thx setup (prob 4 months from now) I want to get some thx dvd's. Does anybody have any info on the discrepancy?

THX is a standard and a "treatment" if you will

THX can be activated on you processor "over" a Dolby 5.1 DVD because THX is a group of performance related specifications...

Any disc should be THX ready (if you will) if it has two discrete (right & Left) channels of information.

Hey, Dan, to expand on what Andrew said, THX is NOT an encoding format. "THX" is just a standard that the disc must adhere to in order to guarantee the listener a particular level of audio and video quality.

So you can have discs that are THX certified with DTS, Dolby Digital, normal PCM, etc. Similarly, if the disc doesn't live up to the THX standard, it may also include the same audio formats of DTS, DD, and/or PCM.

If you buy THX certified equipment, it isn't able to play any special audio formats via "THX". The THX just means that your equipment also lives up to certain quality standards in order to guarantee certain performance qualities. (i.e. signal to noise ratio, power efficiency, etc)
