    mac guys (dac trouble)

sent my brother my old headphone amp with a usb dac. He has a newer mac laptop and states there is no audio coming out. This amp uses the Ti PCM2706 so no drivers are needed...
Anything cute that the mac needs done to it so this can work?

I think you have to change the output device for music to be the USB dac in the system preferences. I'm not at my machine right now and I don't have a USB dac for that matter so I apologize for being vague. Best of luck.

Yep same sort of thing as with windows (though I think Windows is more customizable).

Open up the system preferences (click on the apple in the upper left hand corner of the screen while not being selected on anything open). Then click on Sound and then on Output and you should see the device listed there.

Now if he's using iTunes or Amarra or BitPerfect or others, there's probably a setting with those apps to use the device as well that might need set.

Yeah, especially if you want to use exclusive or Hog mode. Also, if you want to change sampling frequency of the output, and you're using iTunes, you have to shut down iTunes usually and restart after using the Sound preferences for the DAC. Be sure NOT to run Sound effects to the DAC.
