E, I don't know much about Kenwood but for 500 bucks I'd guess it would be hard to find a 130 wpc 5 channel amp.

You could probably go to audioreview.com and find some reviews.

Whoa... I'm going to go check this out...

Going for a 7.1 setup, though, I think I'd need one more channel even though the rear two speakers are currently in mono (at best). I suppose I could drive this last channel another way.

A site that I browse quite a bit is www.audiogon.com. I've seen some good prices for good (or better) used equipment. Right now, some of the less expensive - say $500 US - multi-channel amps they are listing:

          ATI 1504 $500.00
          Sherwood AM-9080 $475.00 obo
          Adcom GFA-6000 $450.00 obo
          Parasound HCA-855 $400.00

And that is just out of the first 50 listings. Good hunting. . . .

I agree with David...given the number of quality used amps around these days I'd rather see people buy one or two of those then this kenwood....esp since it doesn't say how it was measured.

Hey, well everyone has an opinion I just thought this would be a great way for someone to step into separates rather affordably, 6 channels at that! I went with AMC amps, which most would probably put in the same category as this Kenwood but I'm happy and think they sound great with my Rotel 1066...so until my Money Tree starts producing I'll keep looking for the deals!

                Nice find E!

I agree with both sides. I do believe that, the used market will get you into "quality" audio at a great price. However, there are those that would rather have a brand new unit and the perks that go with it.

I use an old Kenwood KM-106 stereo amp to drive my sub (svs). It's rated at 125 or 135 watts @ 8ohm. It has never missed a beat. No clipping and does a great job. I push it to insane levels and it never gets hot.

Everyone must meet this hobby at a level of comfort. And that level is all over the board.

I thought about replacing it a hundred times with a better name amp (I've even auditioned newer amps). I just can't justify it when, this one works and sounds just fine.

Anyway, Happy New Year all! ;b>'>

E, that deal on the Parasound sounds really good at $400. Although it's not 6 channel. I've read a lot of good things about Parasound, and ATI as well.

I was kindly surprised that David found those deals.... of course I haven't been looking so I guess I wouldn't know.

Another thing to consider is the Kenwood is from a reputable dealer while you may not know what you are getting from the others. Demo vs. Used..... (Well demo is really used.)

E, wasn't suggesting that wasn't a good deal. My apologies if it came across that way. I was just showing another good site to use.

Huh? Hey, I can browse can't I? Truth be told, I'd be killed if another component came home right now - although a nice Theta Dreadnaught would be just fine by me. :

I must confess...I tried buying this amp and then was going to offer it to you...but I was like 2 minutes too late...someone snatched it up...I even called to confirm!

                            How's the training going?
