To RGB or not to RGB

I'm a newbie here so go easy on me. Here is my setup:

Wall Mounted HDTV, Direct TV HD Cable, DVD Player (with HDMI out) and Yamaha tuner. The tuner is about 5-6 years old and does not have HDMI capability.

Now to my question... Should I run the DVD and Direct TV outs through RGB to the tuner and then from the tuner run RGB & RCA through the wall to the TV? Or should I invest in a rgb to dmi converter? Or should I just run HDMI from the DVD and Direct TV box through the wall straight to the TV and bypass the tuner altogether?

I am using the tv for the sound. No external speakers.

    Thanks,

Hi guys, I'm not getting any audio from my HDMI setup. I've got my HDMI dvd player hooked to my external HDTV tuner (accepts HDMI) for my display and then an optical output from the tuner to my receiver which is connected to the speakers. I get video but no audio even when I select the optical input...

    NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC

Just ordered; should be in by Monday. These are just starting to become available in the US. I've been looking for something with above average performance but not over $2K, unlike my last two DACs, which while quite satisfactory from a performance perspective, are rather pricey for most of my friends....
