    Sony BDP-1700ES

Sony Intros the BDP-S1700ES Blu-ray Player

The Sony BDP-S1700ES Blu-ray player has joined a trio of new A/V receivers announced by Sony this week. The three receivers are a part of the new ES, or Elevated Standard, product range and are designed to bring high-end performance to the home, for a relatively reasonable price. The STR-DA5600ES, DA4600ES and the DA3600ES are all 7.1 channel receivers with 100 watt, 120 watt and 130 watts per channel and will retail between $1100 and $2000. They're all ideally suited to the new Blu-ray player thanks to allowing 3D pass-through.

The S1700ES Blu-ray player is a player with DVD upscaling to the same resolution, with 3D support too. Around the rear of the player you'll find an IR input jack for integrating with other , plus the S1700ES has built-in Wi-Fi. For BD-Live use there is 1GB of too. If you own an iPhone or , Sony's BD Remote app will let you control the player, and Sony have said that an Android-specific app will soon follow.

The Wi-Fi connectivity allows access to Sony's Qriocity, their new online video service. Announced at the beginning of the year, there will be downloadable video from many major film studios, all available in standard def of 720p. As you can see from the video below, the service uses the same Xross Mediabar UI found on the and some of Sony's mobile phones too. The S1700ES will be out in the USA in August for around $400. don't seem to have mentioned an international release as yet.

The BDP-S1700ES also sports an IR jack on the back, which makes it simple to integrate into an existing system. What may be disappointing to some folks is that the BDP-S1700ES won't be available online. You can only get it from specialty AV dealers and custom installers when it launches this August at an MSRP of $400.

    It looks like the BDP-700ES

    Sony BDP-S700 3D Blu-Ray Player Review:
The Sony BDP-S700 Blu-Ray player is Sony's flagship model Blu-Ray player and was announced on January 6,2010 at CES. It is Sony's first ever 3D Blu-Ray player and will be the only Blu-Ray player with 3D capability Sony offers in 2010. In order to use the players 3D capabilities you will need to use 3D TV. Sony's first commercially available line of 3D TVs was announced on the same day as the BDP-S700 at CES 2010.

    BDP-S700 Connectivity Review:
Due to this player being 3D capable it has a HDMI 1.4 output, keep in mind that as of today receivers don't have HDMI 1.4 inputs so you will have to connect directly to a 3D TV with HDMI 1.4 input. The Sony BDP-S700 has an Ethernet jack and built in Wi-Fi so you will be able to connect to the
internet and stream to your TV a wide range of internet video content such as from YouTube and Netflix. In addition it is DNLA compatible so you can wirelessly share items such as videos and photos from a computer. Finally the Blu-Ray player has an USB input so you connect storage media such as USB external hard drives with videos and photos and then have them streamed to your TV.

    BDP-S700 Other Features:
This Sony 3D Blu-Ray player has the unique capability to be controlled from your Iphone or Ipod after a free app download. It also has Precision Cinema HD upscaling which improves the quality of standard definition and internet content. In addition Sony has claimed that this and all of the other Blu-Ray players they introduced start and load faster than ever before.

Guys, this should be in the Home Theater forum or the A/V Chalet forum. Where would you like it? Let me know and I'll move it.
