    Elemental designs master thread...

This thread is for discussion of all Elemental designs speakers and subwoofers.
    Manufacturer's website...http://elementaldesigns.com/

Please share your pictures and thoughts and tips. I'll start.....

I am currently awaiting an eD A2-300 subwoofer. This I will add to my Klipsch Reference 7.1 System......this should bring great sounding bass to my current system, with deep depth and musicality. I can't wait to hear them all together! I will post pictures and thoughts once it arrives! In the mean time please feel free to post your pic's and thoughts, or even set-up tips and tweaks...:T

I'm curious how music their subs really are. My impression of ED is that they can build a great box, throw a nice plate amp on it, and put a decent driver in, but I don't know how well they do in the audiophile world. Can't wait for your review.

Well, they are alright. I'm not sure they are AMAZING so to say. Good drivers though and their prices are pretty reasonable for the most part. But there are definitely better out there.

Yeah...I was going for the Velodyne Optimum 12........but glad I didn't waste the $1,200.....The eD puts out better SOUNDING bass. Still wish I had the room correction, and the other "stuff" that they are ridiculously charging you for.

Yeah, Emotiva has an auto room correction sub coming out that I bet would keep up with the Velodyne and it's well under 1k. Or they have a dual sub one with an outboard amp that has auto room correction, each 12" sub is in it's own enclosure. That setup is going to be 999. Either way though I like building my subs. Way more bang for your buck.

I don't currently have a sub, just 2 channel speakers. I built some CLD Dynamic 4T's and they are fantastic. Plenty of bottom end for music. Eventually I'll be moving those to HT duty and there will be some subs going in.

                        good stuff...

looking around for comparable subs, I found this one:

sell me on why the ED one is going to be better for more money.

it does look very impressive in the pictures.

give us some more of your impressions - I'm curious about how well it integrates to your setup.

I have all of my speakers calibrated with an SPL meter to 82-83 db. I have my sub at 81db........imaging is great. You can't tell where the sub is in the room!

This is my review of the Elemental Designs A2-300.......

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, (which a month isn't really that bad compared to some companies).........my A2-300 arrived. The box is Gy-normous. I'm in love already.
The first thing I must say is that the speed at which this speaker shipped was unreal. It shipped on a Wednesday, arrived on a Thursday......the next day. Impressive, although I'm the state next door. OK....down to business. I started with some basic radio jazz to get a feel for musicality. The A2-300 seemed surprisingly smooth at handling different types of music. I moved on to country, rock, hard rock, and then tested a couple of my own discs. I came to the conclusion that most of what you throw at this sub it will handle greatly.

Moving on to cinema, I put in the Dark Knight to sample some of the low end. The A2-300 was deep and thick sounding during the different areas of the film. The joker fired off his RPG rocket from inside the semi truck, and "Kablammo!" the air in the room compressed and then blew across the room.......so did my brother, my son, and several others who had come over to see what just exploded next door!.............Wow! I was not used to this kind of low end at home before now.

Next I put in U-571 for a dose of those awesome depth charges..........So sweet. The A2-300 is powerful and direct and brings the smallest of things to life.....This speaker gets really LOW......hits very hard, and you will definitely FEEL your movies like you haven't before. I must admit though I was rather impressed with how great this sound is with my other speakers AFTER calibration. I was also impressed with how this speaker images things differently than I was ever used to. Sometimes loud and aggressive, sometimes subtle and deep.........with lots of power and superb build quality.........(new cabinets bracing and finish is great) Elemental Designs has done something that other companies never will.....build high quality products with one thing in mind............THEIR CUSTOMERS. :T

                                  couple questions:

                                  - do you feel this sub is fast?
                                  - how do you have your cross overs setup?
                                  - if you where to be critical, what are you dislikes or wishes
                                  - have you tried the port plug? if not, throw it in and give us your thoughts

I own an Elemental Designs A3-300 and it is fantastic! It does a very good job at both music and movies. I may be getting another one for movies in my large room.

                                      - do you feel this sub is fast?
                                      - how do you have your cross overs setup?
                                      - if you where to be critical, what are you dislikes or wishes
                                      - have you tried the port plug? if not, throw it in and give us your thoughts
The sub seems very fast, although I'm not really one to know what a really fast sub sounds like in my room. As far as the room it is 14X18. I have an Onkyo 805, with my Audyssey SHUT OFF......these are my settings:

1st......ALL other speakers are set at 83db
2nd.....Subwoofer output on my receiver is set to -9db
3rd.....now on to the sub itself:
                                      Level: 12 o'clock (1/2)
                                      Low Pass Filter: 1 o'clock (2/3)
                                      Phase: 0

Then I calibrated my subwoofer to 81db, as suggested by eD. Now with my speakers at 83db and my sub at 81db my room sounds incredible, and images wonderfully. works so well that you can't tell where all the low end is coming from...;x( as far as the port plug it seems to tighten the sound slightly. I tend to use it more for music then movies.........

After a couple quick searches it appears Elemental Designs is completely out of business. I had no idea they made home stuff. I bought a couple of their 10" car subwoofers and an amplifier a few years ago. The amp went bad on me after a couple of months and after much haggling with them I never got it resolved. Good riddance to that company as far as I'm concerned. The two 10" subs I have still sound ok though.

Their electronics were junk, I had three of their amps die on me. Finally replaced the last one(first two under warranty) with a Yung 500 unit and it sounds nice again.
