Pro amps are fine for use driving a sub. You could use a plate amp instead. Forum sponsor Parts Express has a good selection of subwoofer plate amps. I used one for years in a DIY sub.

Unless your sub requires an amount of power greater than 1,000 watts, IMO I see no advantage to using an external pro amp. The plate amp has advantages over the external amp that include, no wiring to the sub, built-in adjustable crossover, auto on/off, and no potential cooling fan noise to worry about. Depending on your subwoofer needs, you may find the Dayton Titanic subwoofer kits to be an excellent value if you're looking to build a sub. I'm running a 12" Dayton with my HT system.

Ditto with Glen. Unless you are building a real deep bass multiple driver, difficult load monster, a plate amp is a no brainer.
If you plan on doing this build, post some picks and plans for your build. If this is your first build we could assist if we see the need to.
Enjoy the build.... KGHere is my LCR "Trio". Way to go guys !- Bottom

by jquinHi All
Ages since I was doing speaker DIY but a requirement for a new sound system was created when I purchased an intel NUC for a HTPC.
What with the only speakers being those in the TV I saw the need to improve on this situation.

by mazurekHere's a pic showing how I mod'ed the Rythmik audio plate amp to remove its crossover. I'm not sure where the volume control part is, I modified it to connect the input directly to the amp module. As shown, input impedence is ~ 28KOhm, and gain is somewhere from 33-35 dB. I wouldn't do the mod if...-

I would love to simulate what I am about to desribe but I am not sure that any tools will allow for this.
I was wondering whether or not this could cross over to a rs150 with the help of a plate amp. (Dayton subwoofer 240 watt with boost)

by Brendan_LI have an Adire Rava which is a Shiva, a box, and a plate amp.
It's this amp, plus or minus the boost:

When it's really going, say from demo disks, it overheats and shuts off.
It does it with bass...-
