I would use the Mac Mini as the transport in the HT and then build an actual Server Box.

Dougie85's server is wicked sweet, doesn't break the wallet much either. His setup can be expanded to a total of 20TB's of data. Thats a total of 1333 Movies in 1080p 15GB .mkv format.... Or even 1666 movies in 1080p 9GB .mkv files across 15TB's with 5TB reserved for DVD quality rips and music.

    LOL
Lots to work with if you go that route. :T

There are good freeware tools out there, using the .mkv format is by far the best. Google search DVD2MKV you will find all the tools and DIY guides ya need.

at the moment i am using mactheripper. it works great. though, there are times when certain movies will not play. probably a copy protection it can't break  . i figured if i purchased a ripping program that it would solve this, but not sure.....

            Mac mini and SSP-800
            by ian1975
            Hi to all,

I just bought a mac mini to play my MKV movies and it will be connected to the SSP-800. Anyone had experience with this setup? how is the mac mini sound card (2.1 vs 5.1)? Will the SSP-800 do the sound decoding or the mac mini?
            Any better solution?

            Thanks...

            Mac Mini as Music Server
            by mb225
            Hi all,

I'm looking to move to a high quality digital music server. I'm thinking of using a Mac Mini with a 2TB drive as my base. I need the 2TB drive since I rip all of my music to wav. I have a Cambridge Audio DacMagic and I was planning on connecting the Mac via digital output (USB,...

Mac mini music server -digital output
            by kvardas
Building a Mac mini music server. Besides toslink or spdif, is USB the only option for digital output for inputing the DSD and PCM to the DAC? I was able to tap to the pins of the chip in a multiplayer and export directl to my DAC the PCM and DSD. Was hoping to do the same with the Mac mini as opposed...

Rotel & Mac Mini's work pretty well together
            by photoman
Finally got around to hooking up my Mac mini to the home entertainment system. I used the cable with a mini-rc to optical and connected right to an optical in on the 1068. My music is ripped via Apple's lossless compression. I used iTunes and it sounds pretty darned good for what it is... I was amazed...

Connecting a Mac mini to RSP 1570
            by RoMan
            Hi all,

I have connected my mac mini to hdmi 2 on my Rotel 1570. Problem is the Rotel is reading Multichannel but I'm only receiving 2 channels of audio. I have configured to 7.1 in the Audio MIDI Device setting in the Mac and it should not have an issue reading the discs as I have heard...
