:P This is my first post so thank you for your patience.
I have decided to go forward with adding 5.1 to my main system and have pulled together all my equipment with an idea. I have an uncompromised 2 channel setup and am going to use my Denon 3805 and dvd-2910 taken from the other room to add on 5.1 (center, L/R surround and sub). I will be using another separate amp from the preouts on the Denon (since I have heard of others using separate amps with great sonic success) to drive my center. I wanted to use a similar amp to drive the center as the main left and right does from my 2 channel preamp to maintain the same level of sonic playback. I am running DIY L/R and a newly built center matching speakers.
One question is, while using a separate center amp from the Denon can I still bring in the L/R rear surrounds from the Denon's built in amps all in the "direct or pure direct mode" or is it all separate amps out for 5.1 or Denon internal amps , one or the other? I can compromise a little on the surround speaker output since the Denon output is not exactly inferior and the main sonics are certainly up front along with a good sub with built in amp.
My other question is if this is obtainable is there any room under this configuration to use any left over Denon internal amplification (ala zone 2/3) for a 2 channel output to drive a set of speakers in another room?
To answer a question you may have at this point:
I still enjoy my current high end 2 channel system with preamp and amp and with 2 additional available inputs on this preamp I can connect the stereo out from the 2910 to one input and the 5.1 front L/R channels from the 2910 to the other input with center and L/R rear surround going to the denon to complete the 5.1 when I want it. I should also mention I am strickly using analog inputs and outputs since the Denon analog is superb.I realize I will need to adjust the Denon and the 2 ch.preamp volume separately to balance out the sound when running 5.1. I have no problem with that.
Just trying to have my cake and eat it too. I actually have all this on hand so their is no additional investment unless I need to purchase another 2 channel amp to drive the rear surrounds from the Denon pre outs if I can't use the Denon built in surround.
Thanks for your input on this, and I apologize for the novel :P
