hdmi 1.3 out of panny bd-30 into the yammy receiver

rotel on bypass mode

will i get the new hd sound from yammy bypassing the rotel?????

Yes, just run the analog outs from the Yammy to Rotel inputs and you're set.

You have a newer Yamaha...why not just ditch the Rotel? You'd have one less volume knob to deal with and less 'stuff' in the signal path on the way to your amp.

Does the Rotel have some special feature that the Yamaha doesn't??

chrispy35, i can't go from separates back to a receiever. the yammy will only used for the new surround sounds from blu-ray.

Certainly, I'd keep the power amp too. I think in your case though, since you have the opportunity, it would be good to A/B the yamaha used as a pre-amp and the rotel pre-amp to see if you can hear a difference, and if so, which one you prefer.

You'd need to be careful when setting up the test though to eliminate differences in sound levels and (ideally, if you have a friend to help) hide which pre-amp is being used from yourself.

i use to be a yamaha guy. i used the rxv-3000 for years until rotel came into the picture. what a difference. a sales person from tweeter told me a new line of yammies are come out. the 662 series around may. the price will be around $500 also. so the yammy will be used for the new surround sound features & the rotel for everything else.
