    Combo players

Any cheap HD/BR combo players on the horizon ? I'm thinking of waiting it out, I don't think either camp will give in.

    I think 350.00 is a good price

This is a double post of sorts - sorry if I'm breaking rules.

If you're willing to build an HTPC, you can pick up a dual-format drive for a pretty good price. LG is the only one offering them right now, I think.

    LG GGC-H20L - Reads both Blu-ray and HD-DVD (writes DVDs and CDs, too). It's around $260 .

LG GGW-H20L - Writes Blu-ray only but reads both blu-ray and HD-DVD. I went to www.froogle.com and found it at a couple of shops for under $350.

On that sweet day when I finally build my Home Theater around HiDef, I'll likely be picking up one of these.

    Cheers,

    Brad

As far as a low cost stand-alone dual player is concerned, I wouldn't hold my breath now that electronic manufacturers are pretty much shifting to Bluray players. But on the other side of the coin, if HD DVD does die a slow death, you may see Samsung and LG drastically cut the prices on their problemsome dual players.

I thought I read that Samsung is still committed to dual format players, and they may have fixed the problems they've been having with their new players. However, with BDA CEs fixing prices (pun very much intended ) above $400 for Blu-ray players, I doubt you'll ever see a dual format player below that.

What software would enable this player to play ? I'm not computer savvy. What hardware to output the signal ?

A good friend has tryed to talk me into building a media type computer to store my growing SD-DVD collection and play the stored movies so this may be an option. Can HD/BR be stored like SD-DVD's ?

          Thanx guys KG

I'm wondering if either of these players would work with an external enclosure and 360?

Very much doubt that the 360 will do BD playback. And I'm sure they have it made so that you can only use the 360 drive as there are some memory units that pop up when you hook up the 360 drive to a PC and no doubt the 360 needs these. I currently have an LG BD-Rom drive and an xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. Both work great on the PC and I can even play BD+ content with some extra software.

                Bluray when?
                by george_k
Has anybody heard when bluray players and related media will ship? I can't seem to find any information regarding this. I know Sony is lauching the PS3 sometime in the the 1st half of 2006 so I figured the dvd players would follow around then.

I'm thinking of purchasing a new dvd player...

I wish I could make this non-model specific, but so far, this is all I know of actually delivering to consumers. Got an Integra press release today.

Looks AMAZING for only $800! Note the deep color capability, Audyssey room correction, HDMI upconversion, and HD audio decoding!

Discrete analog stages for multichannel players
                by Steve Goff
Some of the new multichannel combo (DVD-Audio and SACD) players have pretty good basic power supplies and DACs, but are strewn with cheap Op-Amps for current-to-voltage conversion, filtering, and amplification, sometimes with crappy electrolytic as coupling capacitors. I'd like to come up with a simple,...

                by Burke Strickland
Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the studio that currently owns Gone with the Wind has released it on BluRay in a multiple-disc special collector's edition that includes a ton of extras (well, at least a couple of pounds of extras, some printed, others on the addtional discs) in the oversized box,...

                Looking for combo player suggestions/opinions
                by rotel&energy
I have an older, non-progressive scan DVD player. I also own a RCD-1070 that I'm very happy with. Lately, I've been contemplating jumping into the SACD/DVD-A fray with the purchase of a cheap DVD/SACD/DVD-A player. However, I have some reservations about the formats, the players and prices. ...
