Anyone using a receiver as an amp?

    Hello,

I'm getting ready to use my Yamaha RXV-3000 as an amp with a Rotel RSP-976 for surround / music processing. A amp will be purchased after saving $$$ but this is the way I'll do it for now.

Anyone else using a receiver as a amp????

I do the opposite, using the receiver as a preamp/surround processor but I see no reason why you can't use your Yamaha receiver as an amp for the time being.

Yup, at first it was the power for my center and rears, as i piece together everything, its now just powering my rears.

Yup, I've done it as well. No problem to fill the need until you save enough for the amp you want.

For several years after adding a pre/pro to my system, for surround and center channels I used the amp section of the Yamaha DSP-A3090 which the pre/pro had displaced. It worked just fine with a set of 8 ohm speakers but when I upgraded to some fairly inefficient 4 ohm speakers, I found it didn't quite have the needed power to handle them with any kind of volume (didn't matter so much with the surrounds, but it was really noticeable with the center). Luckily, I was in a position shortly thereafter to upgrade to a standalone three channel power amp in its place. But it had served well in the meantime.

I did the same thing when I built my first pre/pro system.

              Thanks All,

I've been debating about upgrading to separates in the bedrooom for any months. I got a good deal on a Rotel processor. I'll use my Yamaha for the amp for now. Now I know what I want for Christmas.

                June,

Indeed, once you go separates you'll never go back. Be mineful of your amp choices and how they integrate with your system, find what is appealing to your ear.

                Peace and blessings,

Rotel only, I promise. But for now, Rotel & Yamaha.

                    Hello -

I am new to this board and new to the world of mid-level audiophile systems. I am hoping for some sound advice on a receiver/amp purchase as my Yamaha RV-1105 finally gave out after 9 years of use.

I originally purchased B&W's Mini-Theater system and was not...

receiver + amp still better than pre/pro + amp?
                    by CPALIU
Why would using a pre/pro + amp still deliver "better" sound quality than a receiver + amp? If a amp was connected to a receiver, wouldn't the onboard amp on the receiver basically be disabled? if this is the case why is it still better to use a dedicated pre/pro than a receiver?

                    Hello All,

I found a pair of B&W P2 in a local "Pre-Played" store. Will my Yamaha rxv3000 run them?

Rotel receiver or Yamaha receiver with Rotel amp?
                    by Robosapien
I already own a Yamaha RX-V1500. I like the features and reliability but not the sound so much. Would I be better off selling the Yamaha and going with a Rotel receiver(1057) or keeping the Yamaha and using it with a Rotel amp? As I wouldn't get much $$$ for it, better sound quality(???) and less clutter...
