Engaging DPL2x on DD 5.1 movies

Ok not sure if this has been asked before so here we go. Since the Arcam AV8 received the update of DPL2x I have always engaged it on any 5.1 encoded movie. When I do this the volume increases enough to be noticed and it lowers when I just leave it at DD 5.1. I have a 7.1 setup. I read on the Audioholics website when they reviewed a Carry Audio processor and mentioned that it did the same thing when they engaged PL2x (6db increase) on a 5.1 movie. They said that it degraded the sound. I guess my question is whats the best method using a 7.1 setup and listing to 5.1 soundtracks? Do you leave it on DD 5.1 and or DD 5.1 EX when available on the disc or do you engage PL2x? I've always been unsure of what the correct method is and would appreciate others experiences and advice :T .

Hey, sithlord- I have come to LOVE DPLIIx on my processor. I will engage it for ANY source, be it mono, stereo, or digital to get 7.1. I personally haven't noticed a volume increase, and find the soundfield generated to be even more enjoyable than the master 5.1 audio or whatever. I've never heard a degradation.

I concur with Chris. I use it almost all the time as well and I have not experienced any acoustical degredation, and enjoy the 7.1 panoramic sound immersion field that it provides. You will just need to ensure that your speakers have been properly calibrated.

      Peace and blessings,

Yep I'm well versed in the calibration of speakers/HT due to this excellent forum. I am still going to use this setting no matter what I've read as it definalty provides the best listening experience imo. Thanks for your replies.
