I have heard about this method when calibrating a HDTV. Does anybody know what this method would consist of?

As an aid to doing convergence (of CRT RPTVs), you sit back from the screen and look at it through binoculars so you can see the lines up close. This way you're not standing or crouching to see the lines up close, and the remote works better too.
That's all it is. Just one trick to make convergence easier.- Bottom

Well, I finally sealed up the calibration on my 56H80 and thought I would share my results. What follows is a review of the TV itself and the results of the calibration.
