    subwoofer choices

I have a "rec room" that is a primary music listening room, and secondary movie room, and tied with my home theater room for TV use. I have a CA5200 with B&W 802D's and HTM2D.....some cheap in ceiling for "surround" that were installed with the house. As i have B&W in my home theater, i may someday trade in these speakers for something else......just for a difference.

But issue at hand here is choice of subwoofer of which i have (2) B&W 855's for home theater room, but none for rec room.

Rec room is big as it opens to multiple spaces. Probably 12000 cubic feet for the total space, so not necessarily expecting a subwoofer(s) to energize this area, but would like to offload the B&W low base and make it a bit more viable for movies....and very loud music.

I am no expert here.....love movies and music (and loud)....but do not have time to really research these technologies thoroughly.

So, initial thoughts are Martin Logan Descent i, and Velodyne. Would appreciate input on these relative to
    (1) one versus the other and (2) numbers recommended .....i.e. would quantity of two generate enough base to feel or is the space and uneven sizes of the room too problematic. (3) other suggestions'

Really needs to blend seemlessly for music......bass impact a nice to have for movies, but not as critical.

    Thank you.

I would suggest you take a look at JL Audio. They have some amazing subs.

If you audition one you'll see why it got product of the year from many in 2006.

Can't go wrong with this... or even two of them if you want (the ability) to bring down your house...

Though you will have to wait a slight bit for their new (and I might add amazing powerful 13.5" woofer they just designed)... Definitely worth the price...and they should offer a pre-order discount once they start production! :T

          Digital Audio makes me Happy.

I suggest that you check out the new subwoofer from Outlaw. It was designed by Dr. Hsu. For about $649 you can get a great subwoofer. Two of them would be killer for HT and music.

Room of that size twin velodyne DD-18's or a single DD-1812 would do the job very well. Can't go wrong with either one.

These are all good recomendations, but I would consider the SVS line of subs, as previously stated. They represent the best bang for the buck, and that is what I personally recommend to others that may ask. I haven't had a negative report as of yet, but a lot of Ohhh man. Your budget is also a determining factor in your decision, try to listen if possible.

                Peace and blessings,

                    Calculating room volume?
                    by P-Dub
Well, in a nicely closed off room, that's easy, LxWxH. But what about the various opennings? At what point do you say, enough is enough?

Take for example a house I'm looking at renting. The main living room is nice and large, I'd estimate a 24ft x 18ft x 8ft room. But it's not closed...

The pictures turned out really dark since I don't have enough lighting in there but I'll have to see about bringing in some high power light when I'm ready for the final photo shoot The room is 23 feet long by 12 feet wide and is 7 feet to the drop down ceiling tiles (another 7" or so above that...

                    683S1 Room Size
                    by BWLover
Hello everyone. I was wondering what is the minimum room size I could use the 683's in? I'm trying to decide on a bedroom or rec room to put my stereo in. But the bedroom is rather small. So what size is to small for these speakers? Thank you.
