    How is this front setup?

Hi all, I'm planning on building some Modula MTMs from the Mission Accomplished section and am considering building a third one for the center and using it upright instead of building a horizontal design. I drew the setup I am considering in Google Sketchup as shown below, pretty much to scale. The screen is 77" diag, the L/R have their tweeter 40" off the ground (about ear level), and the center tilts up a bit with its tweeter about 23" off the ground.

Is it okay to have the center so far below the L/R? If I make a horizontal design I can get it up a bit higher, but I'd really like to have identical speakers across the front if possible. I was thinking about waiting for Jon's new center design but the parts are out of stock and I'm itching to get started building!

Are there any major issues having my subwoofer and rack in the positions shown? My space is pretty limited so I don't have too many options - I'm mainly wondering if the speakers should be any further forward to clear them and for rear port breathing. Right now I have drawn the speakers about flush with them, and there is about 5" clearance from their backs to the wall.

    Thanks in advance!

    -Brian

A couple of suggestions, turn the front channel horizontally (tilting to ear level), test the sub in the corner, and yes, I would move the fronts further from the wall if possible. Continual test and calibrate, remember even minute speaker placement changes can make significant audio impact. Just my quick thoughts.

    Peace and blessings,

The mains are fine.Time will tell if the sub "Likes" it there or not.I would move the equipment rack to keep any distracting lights away from the screen.Once I eliminated the stray light, i finally realized what a distraction it was.

You will need to get some acoustic tratment on thos walls where there will be first reflection issues.

Azeke - this speaker won't do very well on its side because MTMs have lobing/comb filtering problems to the sides when placed that way. Good advice on the sub - I wish I had a usable corner to try out!

Thanks for the advice about the lights KG - I'll see what I can do. Do you use any acoustic treatment that you can recommend? I'm guessing the wife won't allow them but I'm willing to take a look

I did some panels out of OC 703 board. They are 2'x4' by two inches. The trick to making them look good is the fabric has to be thin and acousticlly transparent. If the material is too thick that you wrap them with they look "Very" home made and sloppy.I used a thin Roma wool. The ladies at your local fabric store can help you. They get a kick out of hobby guys saying they're picking out fabric for projects when we're really just making skirts to parade around the house in :B .Here's a pic of mine, the panels, that is.

Wow,that picture stinks...I gotta get a digital camera!

Haha, that is a horrible pic but I get the idea. I'm thinking I may have a way to sell this now... if you put the panels on the walls in an interesting pattern it can qualify as "modern art"

How do you determine the first reflection point? Is this the trick with the mirror and walking along the side walls?

So, sit in the viewing area (sweet spot) and have someone walk alongside the side walls holding a mirror. When I see the speaker in the mirror - that is the first reflection point? Then put wall treatments in this spot?

Does it matter how wide your room is and where your viewing area is situated? For example, I have the viewing area in the right side of the room. So would I still do this the same way for the left wall even though it is outside of the viewing area?

                    Thanks in advance!

I have a Modula MTM CC placed vertically like that. I think dialog is much clearer than when horizontal, especially off axis. I do get light reflecting off the top of the speaker.
Mine are placed about 2ft out, but I had them around 8in at one point and they sounded fine but with slightly less imaging on music. My side walls are much different 'tho.

I’m planning on building a new center and front speakers and have been pointed in the direction of the Natalie P design for fronts and the upcoming “matching” WTMW center. I was just wondering if there is anything else out there you would recommend in the same price range (or lower) and why....

I'm new to the site. Not sure if this is the right place to post. If not sorry.
I'm thinking of building za5.3 center channel MTM. (madisound) The cabinet dimensions are 22 wide. I need to make it 20.5. The question is ; If I build a cabinet with the same baffle height (8 inches) ...

I'm building the WTMW Center for use in a system with Khanspires as mains and NataliePs as surrounds. I began the build shortly after completing my NatPs and am building my Khans concurrently. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot while building my NatPs and couldn't wait to get going on my next projects....

                        Hi there,

I'm considering building a HTPC primarily for watching DVD and DivX/xvid encoded material. My display is a LCD FP (Hitachi PJ-TX100) which has a native resolution of 1280x720. Currently I'm playing DVD's with a Cambridge Audio Azur 540D.
