I was wondering how it would sound? Just use two bookshelves in place of the center. So Im sure Im not the first one to think of it, so who has done it? How did you like it?

I thought I read something on this somewhere and that it wasn't a good idea. But maybe I'm just imagining things. I'm no expert on speakers so I'm sure someone else here is knowledgable on this subject. -
I compared a B&W LRC600 center speaker to two B&W DM601s (same drivers in each). I did not like the two speaker approach.Comment

Two many problems with getting two speakers to sync properly. There's no reason you can't use one bookshelf in place of a purpose built horizontal centre speaker though

Two speakers will result in 'comb filtering', especially of the higher frequencies. The sound waves from the tweeters will overlap and interfere with each other resulting in some frequencies being cancelled and some reinforced (increased).
This will result in an uneven and likely unclear sound.

I'm thinking of picking up a pair of 601S3s to use as center channels to match with my 603S3 L/R. I have a 7 channel amp and only have five speakers so I suppose I could just split the center out from my pre-pro. Anyone see any advantage or problem with such an approach? You can't have a new speaker without a new center channel to compliment it for home theater.

I want to use an RMB-1075 in a bi-amp configuration to drive my center front and center back speakers. The speakers are Polk CSi40s and they have two sets of terminals, so they are bi-amp/bi-wire capable. My receiver is an RSX-1055.

Its getting warmer in VA finally!! Warm enough that I can finish gluing up the sections for my RS WTMW Center. The PE buy was waay back in 2006. Towers have been running for some time. But I'm posting at the start of the center build so I'll finish :B
