    Running Speaker Wire

I now have my new Receiver, Yamaha RX-V2500 , and have bought some good quality 12 gauge speaker wires from Parts Express, great people. Now I just need to run it. I am hooking up 7.1 so I need to run 4 lines to the rear. I know I need to be careful about running near electrical wires but do I need to separate the speaker wires?

I was thinking about running a pipe from the front of the room to the back and run the four wires in the pipe. I do not know if this is Audio sin.

    Help.

Nope, not a sin. I've never come across anything saying speaker wires cannot be run side-by-side.

Now, when running the speaker wires, if you are in the attic or basement try to stay 2 feet away from electrical runs parallel to the speaker wires, and if you are crossing any electrical, be sure to do it at as close to 90 degrees (a right angle) as you possibly can.

P.S. If you are just running cables along the baseboard the last comments obviously don't apply.

Speaker wires carry high-level signals, unlike interconnects. They are virtually unsusceptible to interference as a result. Therefore, running them close together shouldn't affect the sound. Even having them near an electrical run shouldn't have much of an effect, though it's a good rule of thumb to keep them away from parallel electrical runs just to be safe.

This is why interconnects are shielded, and speaker wires are not.

Everyone here knows how to twist wires with a drill, correct?
        by Amphiprion
This is one of those things that if you don't know, it will make your day. Being a hardware engineer I see a lot of stuff and take it for granted that everyone knows it. Anyway....

A hand drill is a very fast and easy way to twist two wires together. Twisting wires together reduces the...

        Running Speaker Workshop on Vista?
        by Sdiver2489
Can anyone tell me if Speaker workshop runs on Windows Vista? I decided today to change the tuning frequency of the port on a project that I just "completed" but I usually use SW to do this and verify the results. Being that SW is a program that hasn't been updated in a while, I am curious...

        by saurabh
Okay, this is about interference from the various parts of the HTS, primarily the web of wires. The problem that I see is a low "Hum noise" in the TV speakers if the DVD player (which is right below the TV, its a HTIB) is ON/in standby mode. The moment I pull the plug for the DVD player, the...

        Sparks and wires time!
        by 5th element
So I've mentioned a couple of times about the SB65WBAC full range driver and how one of my projects for them is a bluetooth loudspeaker for a family member. Well I figured it'd be nice if I posted about them a little. A bit like Jon, although not by trade, I am more a sparks and wires guy than a making...
