    Rachelle Ferrell = good listening!

    While she has a few cd's out, I wanted to touch on her release titled "First Instrument"

    This is a jazz lovers dream. Lots of wonderful voice work, supported by some of the best acoustic bass and drum this side of New Orleans.

    My Funny Valentine will make you think that she is singing to you. This is a well recorded Blue Note release. Pick it up and enjoy!

      John, maybe I check her out, I am due some new jazz, and I love the sexy female vocal thing.

      What are the predominant instruments of the music? upbeat, smoky jazz style, big band, what???

          The cd is a mix of (about 50/50) up-beat and smoky. Lot's of piano and drum work. You being a Krall fan, will have nothing but love for this disc. If you truly don't like it, sell it to me and I will give it to my mother-in-law.

              I've had this disk for a few years now and never tire of it. Her voice control is really amazing, it truly is an instrument. She not only uses acoustic bass, but a similar instrument called a "stick", It is fretless and stand up, has a very unique sound. Matches perfectly with the fluidity of her vocal stylings. Highly recommended

                  How many CDs has she out?

                      Nice to see another Ferrell fan! And thanks for the education, I was unaware of the "Stick", I know that I love this disc.

                      All her other work that I own is more R&B. This one is the only "jazz" one that I am aware of.

                              One of the great things about this disc is it's progressions through out the songs. I love when an artist does the unexpected and takes you in a direction you could not see coming during the performance of a song.
