Wow. Really is no break from music tragedy this year, is there? I know some of those who've died were up there in years (especially Leonard Cohen) but it's hard to think of a single calendar year where so many talents have gone.Comment

Leon was a great piano player, and an accomplished songwriter and singer too. My favourite footage of him is on the J.J. Cale DVD "In Session at the Paradise Studios" recorded in 1979. Below is a photo of him from that DVD, aged 37. He clearly favoured the 'older look' from an early age.

JJ Cale died three weeks ago and I’m embarrassed that I didn’t mark his passing on this forum. Better late than never.
It’s hard to describe JJ’s genre of music. It’s a combination of soft rock, country and rockabilly I suppose. Some people called it the Tulsa sound.
