Leon was a great piano player, and an accomplished songwriter and singer too. My favourite footage of him is on the J.J. Cale DVD "In Session at the Paradise Studios" recorded in 1979. Below is a photo of him from that DVD, aged 37. He clearly favoured the 'older look' from an early age.

It’s hard to describe JJ’s genre of music. It’s a combination of soft rock, country and rockabilly I suppose. Some people called it the Tulsa sound.
