    Paul Kantner , 74 , R.I.P.

The Starship has taken Paul Kantner home. A founding member of Jefferson Airplane , later Jefferson Starship. Inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1996 , Mr. Kantner was one of the early architects of psychedelic rock and the San Francisco sound. Rock and Roll changed the world , and Paul Kantner helped change Rock and Roll. God bless and clear skies , Paul.

Yeah, so far this year hasn't been very kind to a certain generation of musicians- one's I grew up with. It's also a bit melancholy at times to read the story arc of their lives to where they are now. (did that this week for the Spin Doctors- "Two Princes" is one of the best all time boogie songs IMO).

It's like last year, when I did some Google searches on guys I used to play with back in the early 70's, when I was working my way through school- several are no longer alive.

Good thing I still have a reasonable sense of optimism about life's possibilities and what you can make of it at any age!

        Starship Troopers Discussion
        by Chris D
Sorry if this gets David or anyone else going. I just think it's a worthwhile discussion!

As posted in the upcoming releases thread, Starship Troopers is about to be released in Superbit edition. I love this movie and will most likely buy this one too. The problem is, this is the third...

You like Rock and Roll but, not Country?
        by Bob
The last couple of years I have been trying to trace the origins of rock and roll and gathering up the "essential" albums while they can still be found.
Mostly I had worked my way back through the roots in the blues and gospel. The past few months I have been working my way back to...

Why Rock only lasted 6 years
        by Bob
Due to the idiotic racial segregation and bigotry of the 50's, and due to the fact that a lot of the great rockers were (gasp) black, rock n' roll reached a very small portion of the white audience at first. Fortunatly, along came the innocent looking geeky Texan by the name of Buddy Holly, who created...

Rock Of Ages great for the 80s folk
        by George Bellefontaine
If rock and roll from the eighties was your particular era, you will probably already have seen Rock Of Ages, so I won't bother with the story line. The 40s/50s was more my era, but I had three sons who were so into rock and roll ( and the 80s was their era ) that I sometimes ran from the house screaming....
