    Live From Where Ever

Ok so this year I get to pick a concert anywhere in the US and my girlfriend and I are going to fly out and make a weekend (or mid week) of it.

I want to base my decision not only a great band or artist, but also a great venue.

Two years ago it was Derek Trucks playing with his wife and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra at the Jacoby Hall. It was a tremendous concert.

I was thinking about going to New York and checking out something at the Blue Note or the Village Vanguard, or maybe check out something at Red Rocks. Maybe Austin for the festival there. I like almost everything out there so this isn't easy.

Any suggestions? Where was the best show you have been to? Who was the best act? And if any of you wise guys say the Beatles or somebody who died, har har in advance.

An edit... I'm going to the Langerado Music Festival in March so that date is booked.

Eric, being from Colorado, I really, really, really enjoyed the one concert that I did see at Red Rocks. Highly recommended as a venue. I've heard good things up here in the PNW that there's some sort of concert venue in the Columbia Gorge that's supposed to be awesome. If nothing else, the Columbia Gorge is incredibly beautiful, and I really love driving through it.

I'll have to do Carnegie Hall someday just to check the square.

AFA venues are concerned, we should all see Carnegie Hall once in our life, and the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, DC. The Blue Note in NYC would be a ‘must do’ for us Jazz Junkies. ‘River Walk’ and Austin, would be great venues, too.

The list of artists you gave only goes to show how myopic my knowledge of music is! I think I only recognize about four! When you listed ‘moe’, I figure that you didn’t mean Keb Mo?
Of your list, my choice would be Taj Mahal, however.

Has to be the ‘Steely Dan’ show I saw at an outdoor pavilion just outside of Pittsburgh a few years ago. I have a friend I met on a F1 forum who is from England, Jon is a lighting producer and was hired by the band to design and run the lighting for their tour. We got to sit with him during the concert in the ‘control booth’ right next to sound engineer. Yeh! It sounded pretty good!

Eric, I'm going to the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival in April this year and there's a few bands there that might interest you.

That's a terrific lineup. Some of the bands overlap. If you haven't had the chance to see Bela Fleck live... you should catch that stage. It's much different than Live from the Quick when they don't have a ton of guests with them. Great show.

Looks like I might have to get my passport ready. I just hate the idea of spending that many hours in a metal tube with wings.

If you ever get a chance, you have to see Dave Matthews Band at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre... it's one of the most amazing venues.

Course I would imagine just about any other band would sound amazing there too...

Red Rocks is a venue at the top of the list.. They just haven't released any concert dates yet... I'd love to catch something big there... Maybe Gov't Mule or the Allman Brothers Band... Speaking of them... Anyone going to the Wanee Festival in April?
