    Music to study by!

    Hello all-

Just thought I would post and ask what type of music and/or artists do you listen when you are trying to study or read or even just relax?

Here are a few of the things that I listen to:

Gavin DeGraw, John Mayer, Maroon 5
    Dave Brubeck - Time Out
Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert, Shostakovich (Symphony No. 5), Mahler, etc.
Jars of Clay (all of their stuff), Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns
Stan Kenton, Count Basie, other classic big bands

That is most of what I listen to and various other random songs that I pick and chose from time to time.

For studying or reading, The Sound of Silence. And I don't mean the song by Simon and Garfunkel. When music is playing, I listen. When I need to concentrate on something, that goes better when it is quiet.

Now, for RELAXING... I like your music choices! (At least the ones I've heard. The rest are now on my list for future listening.)

What you DON'T say may be held against you...

No music for me while reading. Ditto when driving. I never play music in the car as I find it distracting and prefer to devote 100% attention to the road. For relaxing, any type of music I'm in the mood for at the time.

When i was at school i really enjoyed maths and used to listen to Nirvana and Metallica while working on it. Really made me concentrate for some reason. Metallica is visiting SA in March..

There's a CD I was given as a gift. It's called Playboy Jazz After Dark and it has the Playboy bunny on a black cover. I don't listen much to modern jazz, but it really is a very relaxing CD and I found it very soothing to listen to while studying.

Have to say that most of my music is Rock, but lately I've been buying and listening to a lot of jazz and classical, even bought my first four operas. I think a lot has to do with my system now. Pianos don't sound too metallic, violins don't sound too harsh, and voices are pure and natural. I guess...
