Here are a few that do it for me....

*any of the "Mills Brothers" (Up the lazy river...... :righton: )
*Lead singer for the original "Platters"
                    *Johnny Mathis
                    *Tom Jones
                    *Jeff Lynn (ELO)
                    *Ian Anderson
                    *Marvin Gaye
                    *Lou Rawls
                    *Sammi Davis, Jr.

I am 'only' 40 years old.....and I DIG the Mills Bros. 8O And Johnny Mathis singing 'Chances Are' is just way cool. My 13 year old daughter singing Tom Jones greatest hits in the car with me is a truly memorable moment!! :T I love to throw on some Lou Rawls...turn the volume knob up a bit, and I can feel his low voice hit me in the chest.

                    Steve

So far lots of great choices. Surprisingly Sting has not been mentioned.

OTOH, If anyone mentions Michael Bolton then I need to shoot them

As for Michael Bolton...I can take him or leave him, mostly I just leave him.Although he does sound good on some material. Most of the music lovers I know feel like Shane.
Why is that?...I'm not sure but I do believe that....some artists when they remake a song are perceived as honoring the original song and artist, such as Eric Clapton when he sings the blues..he has paid his dues,so to speak. While other artists such as Bolton are perceived as interlopers or theives when they does a remake...kinda like Elvis when he would redo a black artist's song for the race charts.
                                    Just one man's opinion.

I can't say that I'm a fan of Mr. Bolton either. I'll just say that a little goes a long way.

Herman, that sounds like a good summer! BTW, I like your icon.

thanks...I once heard the term "polyester" used to discribe Michael Bolton...not sure what was meant but I think it applies.I have never purchased any of his cds,but I have heard him do some songs well.Different strokes, different folks.

                                                Bam!,
I just can't stand his voice or his songs. I can't stand Celine Dion either but that is for the Female vocals thread

I have to also say the Luther Vandross is my favorite male singer. Great vocal range and and he does and excellent job with their arrangments.
