Wow, that is cool indeed. How does that work? Initially, I would have guessed that there was some filament in the post that the coil is sending the charges to, creating an electrostat-type speaker. But it seems like that's not the case, that the discharge itself creates a tone. What are the physics of how that works?

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

by technodanvanUnderhung Voice Coil
An underhung driver is a type of design where the voice coil's winding height is shorter than the height of the magnetic gap in which it operates. In other words, the coil does not extend fully through the magnetic gap, and it remains "underhung" within the magnetic structure. In a standard loudspeaker driver, the voice coil is wound on a cylindrical former and moves within the magnetic gap, which is a cylindrical space between the pole piece and the magnetic...-

by technodanvanDual Voice Coil (DVC)
A dual voice coil (DVC) design is a configuration commonly used in loudspeaker drivers, particularly subwoofers. It involves a speaker driver with two separate voice coils wound on a shared former (the cylindrical structure that holds the voice coils), each connected to its own set of terminals. Each voice coil is wound with its own wire, and they are physically separated but located on the same former. The former is connected to the speaker cone, which moves in...-

An overhung voice coil is a type of loudspeaker driver design where the winding height of the voice coil is longer than the height of the magnetic gap in which it operates. In this design, the coil extends beyond the magnetic gap, giving it a longer excursion capability than a standard driver.
Pros of Overhung Voice Coils:- Greater Excursion Capability: Overhung voice coils have a longer excursion range, allowing them to move the speaker cone farther

by ArmandI'm expecting replacment VC's for SEAS H1212 tweeters and was wondering if there are any tips that you all can give me. I ask because I ran into this during a search:
""In case you ever need to replace the voice coil assembly of your tweeter, here is the procedure for re-assembly:...-

by Jay_WJI found the following article worth checking out. Here's a quote from it:
"With passive crossovers, I now believe that anything over 12dB is a waste of time, especially when the effects of voice coil temperature are considered.
Even with the second order filter, the possible...-
