I have been waiting for the OPPO BDP 83 to appear as most here but I went by BEST Buy to buy a DVD and they were putting out the Panasonic DMP-BD 60s and 80s so I bought an 80. I figure that should the 83 prove to be better I'll buy one later in the year after all the bugs are worked out.

I am using the 80 as a bit stream input to my Rotel RXS 1560 and the picture and sound is outstanding. I have not tried the PCM output to see if I can hear any difference. Maybe later.

The video and sound from standard DVDs and Blu-rays make my aging eyes and ears glad.

If, as I said the 83 is better, I'll get one and give the 80 to my daughter.

Nice move Law. The BD80 is a good machine and gets you into to the Wonderful World of Blu-Ray immediately. Your daughter will be very happy when she gets the '80. And, you'll have a shiny new BDP-83 at some point. Everybody wins! :T
