System Hum from Tuner, Help! (I need somebody! Not just anybody?)

I got a Rotel RT-850A tuner recently. At first I didn't notice, but whenever it is plugged in it causes a hum in my system that is quite annoying. :x If I unplug the RCA connections, the hum goes away! It doesn't have to be on the tuner input, and even if the volume is at zero, the hum is still there.

I have a basic line conditioner, I've tried it plugged in that, but the hum persists.

Once, and only once, I plugged it in to listen and there was no hum! I left it plugged in and the hum returned about an hour later.

Does anybody have an idea of what the problem could be, and how to fix it? It would be a shame to get rid of this tuner as the sound is very good and I got it for dirt dirt cheap by chance.

    Thanks! ;x(

    Same wall outlet

If everything is not plugged into the same wall outlet try that. Don't overload the circuit.

Often the video units have a different ground setup than audio units that do not interact well. Do you have a moniter/TV on that circuit? Try unplugging it. They are usually the culprits and can be highlighted by adding a new audio unit. When I added my Cambridge Audio 840 CD player it highlighted a ground problem my CRT was introducing to my power circuit. Try unplugging your TV or/and your TV/satellite cable.

Just finished the last connection on my system. Connected sub the same way it used to be with my new Yam 2700 sub pre out. The reciever MASTER power ON or OFF HUMMing from sub ONLY when plugged into reciever or anything else. Level on sub doesn't matter. I reversed the cable (and tried another) and...

Another - RMB 1095 Ground Loop / Satellite
        by hamiltong
Like many others before me - after installing all my new toys (RSP 1068 & RMB 1095) - I now have the infamous ground loop hum. God it's annoying.

It's definitely attributed to my satellite coax feed. When unplugging the coax from the SAT receiver hum is gone. Or unplugging the S-Video...

        Hum problem with measurement setup...
        by ch83575
I am using an Eric Walin mic preamp and an accelerometer for measuring resonance. I just noticed that all of my measurements have a large 60hz hum in them. Even when the accelerometer isn't plugged in the hum is there. As a matter of fact, the hum is there even when the soundcard input isn't plugged...

Ground Loop Hum and the RSP-1066
        by Daymond
Just got a 1066 and I am having a problem with what I think is Ground Loop Hum. I have the unit hooked up to a Monster PowerCenter HTS-3500MkII which is plugged in to a grounded outlet with all of my other components. I then disconnected the other components leaving only this processor plugged in along...
