    CD transport, D/A

    Hi,

    I just purchased some headphones (stax srs4040 signature/driver) for my office to use while working on my pc. I am looking for a cd transport, D/A to use for these nice set of cans, and I dont know what brand I should buy. I have been looking at Krell, and I'm pretty impressed with the older model kps-20il. Is there soemthing better out there for me to look into buying?

      Why not spend all your money on the DAC and use the PC as a music server?

          Even with a PC or an inexpensive CD player (like the Marantz CD5400) a Benchmark DAC1 would work very well for your application, and includes a very nice headphone amp and it's own volume control.

              Is it possible to use the Benchmark DAC-1 balanced outputs directly into the balanced inputs of my Levinson #23 amp so that in effect the DAC-1 acts as my preamp?

              CD transport > DAC-1 > Amp > Speakers?
