Well that's not the easiest question to asnwer without more information from you. Just how big a room is it you are putting the speakers into? What will you be powering them with (seperate amp or entry level receiver), is music important or are these just for movies, are esthetics important to you...or your wife?- Bottom

The most important thing is that you audition several different speakers and pick one that sounds good to YOU.
There is nothing wrong with getting recommendations based on others experience, specs, how you are going to power them, etc, but you have to make the final decision and that decision should be based on you hearing them and liking what you hear.

What to look for in a speaker? Well, here's some advice.
1) Look and listen to many models - as the others have suggested.
2) Buy enough speaker so that you won't be forced to upgrade the speakers anytime soon. Sure, many of us upgrade frequently -- and it's usually not related to the fact that we did buy "enough" speaker at the time. It's more related to a disease that we all have when it comes to upgrades.
3) Additionally, if your budget has you pointing at trying to get 5 or 7 speakers to get you started, consider just buying the 3 front speakers with your budgeted money. You'll get better speakers from the start and you'll be able to add on the rears/surrounds a bit later as time and money permit.
Best of luck.- Bottom

Wayne's advice is really good.
Listen Listen listen to alot of speakers and listen to them for long periods of time like 1/2 hour at a time so that you can determine if a speaker is going to be too shrill for you or not. If a speaker gets too shril/bright you'll grow tired of listening to it before too long and it will get worse at home.
Esthetics are important too. I'll admit there are some speakers I wouldn't buy because they are ugly as sin.- Bottom

by caleb1995Hey all. I am upgrading my system and have decided on Rotel. I am trying to decide between the 1056, 1067 and 1068/1075. I live in an apartment, so I don't have a very large listening room. My first concern in 2-channel stereo, but surround also important to me. I'm driving Sonus Faber Grand Piano...-

by maxwebsterHello,
I have been using a bridged rb-976 3x150 for years to power my fronts + centre and a rb-980bx 2x120 to power my surrounds
Now I find that the 980bx has significantly less distortion and better signal-to-noise than my much newer 976
Stereo is still...-
