Purpose of auto align is to enable scrolling of driver database with some decent alignment to find driver with required extension and sensitivity without need to adjust anything manually. Otherwise checkbox should or must be unchecked to avoid losing manual design. I understand that temporary purpose of the checkbox is difficult to remember and control so the last revision does not save auto align status anymore. Some other users have hoped that program should save everything to everywhere to allow continue in the future with exactly previous settings. Someone is always unhappy...At least "auto-align" should not be checked automatically when I open a previously saved project, since this will change my volume by whatever Q value happens to be on the Align tab.
As it is now, I am forced to remember what Q I used, this is not exactly what I mean by "saving" the enclosure project.

Enclosure- Rg parameter removed from Driver configuration group, Align tab and calculations.
- Cs checkbox and text box added to Filter tab. Optional passive series capacitor with ESR=0.01 Ohms.
- Ls checkbox and text box added to Filter tab. Optional passive series inductor with DCR=0.1 Ohms.
- Rs text box added to Filter tab. This replaces Rg.
Note! Filter components are not included in impedance response simulation. - Copy filter button copies also Cs, Ls and Rs to the clipboard.
- Status of Auto align checkbox is not saved to user config and enclosure project. Enclosure tool opens with Auto align unchecked.

Guest repliedI choose to (strongly) disagree on this logic.
Since the alignment tab auto-calculates my enclosure volume it is changing my carefully saved enclosure design in an uncontrolled way.
In my view, my enclosure design should definitely include my desired Q.
At least "auto-align" should not be checked automatically when I open a previously saved project, since this will change my volume by whatever Q value happens to be on the Align tab.

Alignment tab doesn't contain any information about your enclosure design, it's just some buttons to auto-calculate values in Enclosure tab. Your enclosure design is the values in the enclosure tab, cabinet volume, Q, tuning, etc. All are adjustable independently of calculated values in the alignment tab.- Bottom

Guest repliedHi,
Save and Open in the Enclosure Tool is giving me some unexpected results.
Scenario:
I work on and save an enclosure project, e.g a closed box with a specific Q value.
Then start another CB project with a different Q, and save it..
I go back and open the first CB project.
Then I find that the Align pane is not updating the Q to the previously saved value.
The Align pane keeps the Q settings for the existing project before Open, which means that my work can go terribly wrong if I do not pay attention.
Is this intentional, for a good reason? If so, what is the reason?
Or is it simply a bug?
I am using VituixCad 2.0.108.2

I agree. Also in modern times I am often writing via dictation and the machine learning is not perfect so often I have to edit and correct. A lot of us have perfectionist traits; I think and rethink what I really want to say to make my writing is clear and explicit.
So often needs things editing or revision. The other thing is sometimes missing ONE word can completely change the meaning of a sentence. I believe Iâm a not the only one that goes back and reads my writing sometimes hours, when someone else has responded. At least on this forum, the editing is not limited to 30 minutes, unlike that that other forum DIYA.
Of course, I can see the built-in rules to designed to favour humans and minimise bots infiltrating this forum⌠Perhaps there is a happy medium somewhere?- Bottom

That's exactly the problem. Every member should have rights and possibilities to fix factual errors and typos as soon as possible to avoid misunderstandingsâ. Modifications should be possible from 0s to at least few hours after posting. That is standard function on discussion forums, and should be also here. Moderator rights can help some individual, but that does not fix actual problem which can bother every writerâ. Especially with this microscopic times roman font of editor window.- Bottom

Online database is on the server, and local databases are personal in local folder.
You can send records by e-mail. Select rows (filtered by date/your name in Updated field). Right click, Export xml and send file to me.
I paste it to my local database and copy to server. That's it.

Unfortunately yes. Few 1.1 versions had internal pdf reader with configurable text parsing rules for each manufacturer. That could be still usable for few manufacturers.
pdf is basically graphics file format, and many manufacturers are not able or willing to print pdf files as readable plain text with the same format for many years. Also html pages are quite random. I have tested also OCR applications, but they are not necessarily better than pdf to text file converter.
Manufacturers may think that their pdf files and web pages are commercial material requiring fancy and often changing outlooks. Not data. I think it's quite opposite, and they should create strict standard using common quantity names and SI units to help customers using simulators. This wouldn't be difficult, but requires some co-operation. Not competition or ignorance with T/S data.
Of course simulator users could co-operate too, but that has not happened though I have asked many times to provide data for other users with online database. Selfishnessâ has won.- Bottom

Kimmo,
How do you add these to the online database- Do you have to do it manually for each and every driver?
Or do you have a helper tool that automatically extracts the TSP from datasheets or html/XML?Last edited by tktran; 09 September 2023, 01:09 Saturday.- Bottom

I'm sure it's possible, but I'm not keen to add optimization with price lists. Primary target is sound quality which correlates with XO connection and component values in the simulation. Not with price.kimmosto
I wonder if it would be possible for VituixCAD to import such a list with part numbers so that the crossover design process could evaluate the cost of specific LCR components, or generate a file to order specific components. I don't know if this is technically possible, but this was the idea that popped into my head. What do you think about it?
In addition, Excel price lists are very easy to generate, but availability is different. I don't want to promote companies having long Excel part lists over companies which can for example manufacture and deliver any inductor you ask in few days for cheaper that e.g. Janzen. Excel interoperability library is one possible problem. I don't like to add that into VCAD project due to possible dependency requirements. Excel interop is not a problem when all users have the same OS and Excel installed, but that's not the case with VCAD.👍 2- Bottom

Companies that sell components for crossovers like Jantzen Audio, for example, offer an Excel file with a list of components and their price. Hello everyone,
How would a box like this,
â
be modeled in the VCad diffraction simulator?
- Box size is 542mm high, 345mm wide,
- Taper back from baffle is 30Âş starting at 93mm wide at the top tapering down to 27mm at the bottom
- Driver is RS225-8, SD=213.8cm2, centred horizontally, 235mm centre driver to bottom edge
Here is the sim of the box with it just being a square box,
â
If we run with the premise that the bevel is the front edge of the box, using the bevel width at the middle of the driver to be the box width, this is the sim,
â
And lastly, if we call the bevel a big roundover, using the width of the bevel at the middle of the driver as the roundover on the box, this is the sim,
â
And lastly, here is all three overlaid,
â
Which is the best choice, or should I be doing something else?
Thank you,
David.

Thanks Kimmo, that all makes sense. The problem appears to have resolved itself after messing with all the settings. I am less concerned about the specific image dimensions, more so that the chart aspect is as selected in the options. It all appears to be doing what I expect now, sorry to have bothered you with it.- Bottom

Text in user manual is not entirely all-inclusive so some details are not explained.
Image height can be calculated from image width and Aspect ratio. Aspect ratio options are Full, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 10-50 dB/dec. Options in dB/dec use also Frequency axis and SPL/Directivity span settings. Default value of aspect ratio is 25 dB/dec, especially for CTA-2034-A. Default values of W x H can be set by double-clicking the label in front of text box. Settings apply to zoomed chart of six-pack, and copied and exported charts with the following rules:- Dimensions of zoomed, copied and exported image is calculated from aspect ratio and actual Y axis span and frequency range limits if aspect ratio is dB/dec and axis units are dB and Hz. Size is limited up to 4000x3000 px.
- Zoomed chart is 16:9 if aspect ratio is dB/dec, but axis units are not dB and Hz.
- Zoomed chart fills whole frame if aspect ratio is Full.
- Zoomed chart follows aspect ratio settings 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9.
Note! Copy and Export image use W x H size settings in cases 2-4.
Adjusting image height in Options does not modify image width in order to keep user's width setting as is for charts which don't have dB and Hz units or Aspect ratio is not dB/dec. For example GD & phase, Impedance, Power, Excursion, Velocity and Impulse/ETC/Step.
So all this is actually quite complex due to different units and aspect ratio settings. Aspect ratio categories (Full, X:Y and dB/dec) do not act equally in all cases. Easiest is to adjust preferred image width(s) in px and Aspect ratio in dB/dec and exit with OK.- Bottom

Above comment from investigation on native Windows 11 installation.
Running the same version of VituixCAD in Windows 10 VM, it is producing the 720 x 473 size with 25dB/dec selection and bad export aspect shown, where win11 used 720 x 385 and exported with the correct aspect. Very odd.- Bottom
Leave a comment:

I can confirm 100% scale is used on my end. Tested again today, I think the problem lies in the image export settings. 25dB/dec image size should have been 720 x 385, not 720 x 473 = 20dB/dec. I tested and found changing aspect ratio or image width will automatically adjust the height accordingly, however adjusting the height value does not automatically update the width to conform to the selected aspect ratio. It seems there are unpredictable results if the image size does not match the selected aspect ratio. In my case, the image export kept the image dimensions and produced 20dB/dec aspect, while in your case the exported image is actually 818px wide to keep the selected aspect.
In any case, when image size matches the selected aspect, image export is what it should be.- Bottom

This is not probable reason but screen scaling might have possibility to screw up some individual graphics operations though scaling should work on Win 10 and Win 11 with .NET 4.5-4.8. I always run with 100% scaling to avoid problems.
This setting is primarily for Visual Studio IDE, but it's okay also for VCAD with 4K display:

^Somehow I could not repeat that. Both 'Copy image' and 'Export image' commands seem to work here. Legend should not affect to aspect ratio because it is merged as a separate image to the right side of the chart, and total width is sum of separate parts.

I also tested this claim because it sounds really wrong. Values in the beginning: L=1.0 mH, DCR=0.500 Ohms, diameter 1.0 mm.
DCR is 0.499 Ohms after 10 rounds (with mouse wheel or up/down arrow keys) down to 0.1 mH, up to 10 mH and back to 1.0 mH. So drifting is really insignificant if inductance and resistance values stay within practical limits where number of decimals is adequate i.e. controlled by the program. Automatic rounding can use max 7 decimals so in some point quite close to 0.0 mH DCR estimation will start to drift. As already said, optimizer does not touch DCR if not selected for optimizationâ.
So wrong conclusion must be some mistake or accidental change in gauge or adjusting too close to zero mH where 7 decimals for DCR is not adequate anymore.- Bottom
