First DIY build: dual apex jr 8" subs with PR

Yes, it's only a sub But it's my first project so I thought I'd share!

I've been working on this during my free time, so it's been a work in progress for a while, along with a little stint in the desert, this project ended up taking a lot longer than I expected. I went with the 8" subs because when I tried out a few large diameter subwoofer drivers, they put out plenty of bass to shake the house down but they all were far too sloppy when it came to when I tried to play music. I found these speakers on sale on the Apex Jr site and I couldn't resist for the price! That being said, since I first started this project I've had the fun experience of listening to some larger subs that actually sounded quite good for music...so I might end up upgrading anyway

    Stats:
Two 8" subs on the sides with a 12" passive radiator. Internal box is MDF, left and right sides are cherry, and top/front will be MDF painted black with a satin finish (most pictures will show the primer). For power I am using a 350watt Rythmik Audio amp.

Actual MDF box done with the the two subs and the passive radiator installed

Test fitting of the side panel prototype; this one was done before the Jasper circle cutting jig arrived, so it was rather time consuming :stoic: You can also see the primered top in this picture

Currently taking it back into the shop because the krylon spray paint they had at the BX changed formulation while I was gone, and the new stuff reacts horribly to my old paint: imagine desert floor style cracking, except in the paint! I will be re-sanding, then re-primering, then repainting. Hopefully that will let me use the new paint without any issues.

Nice job. I like the look of the drivers recessed and the round over. Question for you, can you get the drivers out now? Also, care to share a graph of the model? I'm just curious how the frequency response looks.

I can definitely get the drivers out, just have to pop off the plate amp and remove somewhere around 12 screws per side panel from the inside, then the screws holding the drivers in on the front. The side panels are not glued on, just screwed in. As for the model, I will try to look for it, but no guarantees. It's been a very long time since I first started this project.
