We have power!

So far, so good! Power supply boards work as they should. I may have to trim voltages a bit more but hey. Makes me feel a bit better about all the time tracing and re-tracing and tracing again making sure it was all as it should be.

Tracing and re-tracing is good- much better than letting the magic smoke out of your parts!

Round two is good. Making music. 3886 board is good. So far, NO buzz or hum on the output, which is more than I can say for the boards I've purchased in the past. And no caps in the signal path to filter DC (there is some, not sure where it's from - next investigation is in that direction).

Man, soldering SMT components by hand is not my idea of fun. I'm glad I only used one! (had to fit a 300pF cap "under" the chips between pin rows).

I admire anyone's patience and ability to design and fab diy electronics.

My only foray into that area was for one set of active speaker crossovers. The end result was ok but the whole experience gave me a strong appreciation for passive crossovers and mass-market actives.

I'm not actually designing the electronics though, I'm implementing and adapting designs put forth by others, and designing PCB's. I now know exactly why prototype boards are common practice! Nothing wrong (well, one board I failed to connect a resistor to V- but that's easy to work around for now) but definitely some things I will change! If I go past this effort with these, that is. May never do anything else with it once my amps are built unless there is interest in kits. ~120W or ~220W balanced amps (into 4ohm), half those numbers for single ended (same basic amp board)... I'll probably build myself an amp for my HT, who knows.

I like building electronics based on other's designs (I am no where near ready to design my own) but I am getting a little run down these days with electronics, so time to turn my attention to building speakers.

I really want to build an medium powered no feedback class a amp project, but I still haven't found that kind of schematic.

Ahhh.

So far, so good. Power supply boards work, both amp boards work. I've found two (easy to work around) errors on the bridge/SuSy board but nothing else, so soon as I get more amplifier boards populated and soldered up I'll be bridging and giving that a whirl.

Will be single ended input till I get the pre-amp kit.

This is fun!

Nothing blows up, and that's good!

Beyond that, there are some issues to iron out. It's running rather quiet, though that may be the ability of the source to provide enough current, may be my test pot, may be something else in the circuit.

The bigger issue is that when driven past a certain point, the sound goes to absolute crap. So something's not working as it should.

So not there yet. But the PCB's work, and that was the big unknown so far.

the problem with DIY amps is that they all sound the same. first i built a Tripath 100W amp and I loved it. Then there was all this fuss about how good the UCD amps were. I put one together and it sounds exactly the same as the Tripath. at least speakers sound different, so i find speakers more interesting.
