    Shiva-X2 "Easy Button Mini"

    First, a little background...

In another thread, Neo Dan complained that there had been no new designs lately. He has helped quite a few builders, so his complaint shouldn't be taken lightly. So, even though it is not quite ready yet, I'm posting up my design for review and forum use. I was planning to build this and post a build thread, then my circumstances took a change for the worse and I have had to put it off for a while. I was going to wait, but Neo Dan's point was well founded. So, here it is.

    Now, on to the show...

This is a slot port design for the Shiva-X2 based on Neo Dan's Easy Button Max Design for the Maelstrom-18. It is a 3.5 cu ft enclosure, slot ported, tuned to 20Hz (this is one of the designs in the Shiva-X2's application notes). It looks like a miniature Easy Button Max (that's deliberate, Dan! ;x( ), thus the name.

The one unique thing about this design - I planned it around handy panels, so people that don't have a vehicle that can carry a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood could build the sub with the 2' x 4' handy panels. The whole sub can be built with 5 of these panels.

Here is a Google sketch-up image of the box:

Click image for larger version Name:	Shiva-X2 3.5cuft Easy Button Box image.jpg Views:	1619 Size:	66.9 KB ID:	870366

The box is 21" high, 21" wide, and 26.25" deep. It is designed with 3/4" panels and a double front baffle.

If anyone is interested, I have a cut sheet for the box.

      Looking good.

How do you get that semi-transparent look in SketchUp? I could never figure that out.

I don't think having one's legs build into the box is going to beneficial .......

Oh, come on Thomas, don't you just *love* the shoes, though?

              Cut sheet

Below is the cut sheet. The image isn't the greatest, I made it in MS Word ops: . Once I figure out how to make a better image out of it I will scan it in.

In SketchUp, under the View Menu, select 'Face Style', one of the selections is 'X-Ray'. If you select that, you will get the semi-transparent look.

Using the program "cutlist" works wonders in figuring out how you should cut your wood. Simple and easy to use

This design is based on the 'Medium Ported (3.5 cubic feet) 44oz. Poly-fill 20Hz tune' design in the Exodus Shiva-X2 Application Notes (the PDF is available from DIYcable.com ). Page 11 has the design description and the SPL graphs.

Here are a couple of shots of the internal bracing, with measurements. It should be enough info to see what needs to be done.

A 3/4 view with the box outline, so you can see the interior:

Looks pretty sharp, I thought the Mal Easy Button was awesome. This, tho smaller in size is equal in awesomeness.

This looks very interesting. I made a couple of quick calculations (probably wrong):
                                    ~118L tuned around 18Hz
                                    WinISD says 82db at 20Hz

What would you use to power it?
                                    Ivan.

I have not thought that far ahead. The Shiva-X2 should not need a lot of power, you would only need about 500W wired (for a 4 ohm load). In fact, if you were willing to give up a little space inside the cabinet a 500W plate amp could be built right into the side.
