Need help to decide UPA 7 Vs XPA 5

    Hi Guys,

I plan to build a pair of 3 way loudspeakers with the 12” Lambda TD12H as the woofer. I am shopping around for an amp that will not only drive the mains for music listening but also a surround setup for HT.

I read in a previous post by Jon Marsh that the engineer who designed both the UPA 7 and the XPA 5 stated that the XPA 5 would only create 2 more decibels than the UPA 7. I tried to read up online about this and it seemed from my reading that 2 decibels would not be easily distinguishable.

Please help me understand the difference and what I could expect. I like to listen to Jazz, folk AND Classical music fairly loud to -15 usually. And I like to hear/feel the bass slam (if you know what I mean). If there will not be a discernable difference, I will go for the UPA 7 that is $250 less than the XPA 5. I've been told that the UPA 7 has plenty of bass slam.

I hope someone can help me come to a decision.

    Thanks,
    Darren

In case you need the link to the UPA 7

This has been discussed many times on both the Emo and Polk forums.

        by Hdale85
Ok so I know a lot of you have been interested in the XPA series. 2 days ago I ordered the XPA-3 and it arrives tomorrow! I can't wait! Although I won't be able to listen to it I can at least take some pictures and comment on the build quality. In about a month and a half I should be able to comment...

Emotiva UMC-1 & XPA-5 good match for 600/CM series speakers?
        by nirvana_1911
As title says, is the Emotiva UMC-1 & XPA-5 a good match for 600/CM series speakers for the price?
I have a Pioneer VSX-LX52, it was around $1,899AUD MSRP and considering upgrading to the Emotiva gear above, which will cost a similar price.
My thoughts are, is there any 7.1 pre-amp/processor...

        N802, Denon AVR-4311 and Emotiva XPA-2
        by mskvarenina
My apologies if this has been covered before but I've got a pair of N802s I've been driving with a Denon AVR-5803 (170wpc).

At normal volumes the Denon was OK, when I cranked it up, the receiver would distort and clip. The bad/good news is the Denon was destroyed by a lighting strike...

        Statements + XPA-2 = not enough power?
        by gromit
I built a pair of the Statements about two years ago. I was powering them with a Yamaha receiver and last year upgraded to an Emotiva Fusion 8100. I knew I wasn't giving them enough power but would upgrade in the future.
A few weeks back, I hooked up some spare speakers to complete 5.1 and watched...
