Seeking job in the East Bay (sorry for OT)

Hi guys, I'm sorry if this is way off topic. If it is, I'll understand if it has to go or gets moved.

The story is this- until this Tuesday I worked at a startup company designing wheelchairs and mobility equipment in downtown San Francisco. We were funded by grants, and over the weekend my boss had a reality check with the books. The grants are running out, and he had to cut heads to save the company. I had the least seniority, and although he laid me off he offered to serve as a reference.

If anybody knows any possible leads for mechanical engineers in the San Francisco bay area, specifically the east bay, I'd really appreciate if you could send me a PM so that I can send you my resume. Any other advice at this point would be most welcome.

Once again, I apologize for the off topic post. I just get a feeling that some of the folks on this board work in the area, or have friends who might. I'd like to think that I've conducted myself well enough here that I'm not thought of as an idiot.

    Thanks,

    Joe Carrow

      Thanks Mike.

I'm doing Monster, Dice, Adecco, Manpower, and Craigslist.

I was saving for a down payment on a house, and with what income we still have we'll be in good shape for a long time- but I really liked that job. It felt great to build things all the time and design products that would really help make people's lives better. It will be hard to find something that I enjoy more.

The oil refining industry as whole is having a hard time finding ME's. I know there are several large refineries in the SF area. Check them out.

Just wanted to give an update- it took me a while due to geography, but I finally found a six month contract at Siemens Medical. I bought a bicycle, and that's going to get me the last two miles from the BART station. This work is going to be very different from the startups, but it pays a lot better.

You'll probably see a lot less posts from me soon, but hopefully in a few months you'll see a few more "Look what I built!" posts when I can afford to build some things I don't strictly need.

Congratulations on the new position- hope it develops into something more permanent! We'll look forward to those "Look what I built" posts in a few months!

I too, hope it goes long-term for you.
Siemens sounds to me like a good company - good luck!
Now get some wood and start building!

I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude. I'm really happy I got the job, and I welcome the opportunity and learning experience, but I've only worked in small startups so far. I need to see if I'm a good fit in the long term for a huge medical company.

BTW- I don't think that the next few things you see from me will have much wood involved :W

Anyone remember that ultra-portable PA scheme I was dreaming up? I'm still saving my pennies and SAF points for an electronic drum kit, and the need for portable SPL is growing near.
